hungrych Posted August 25, 2007 Report Posted August 25, 2007 http://tubecad.com/2007/08/blog0117.htm In other words, expect to see Aikido octal headphone amplifier kits soon at the GlassWare Yahoo Store. (The kits will include 33?F, 630Vdc, polypropylene coupling capacitors.) Woo! I wonder how it would do with Grados. Quote
Nanoha Posted August 25, 2007 Report Posted August 25, 2007 Cool. A number of people have the Akido wired as a headphone amp. Good thing he is starting up kits. Quote
n_maher Posted August 25, 2007 Report Posted August 25, 2007 It's a sad state of affairs that I still haven't built my Aikido. I really should put that on the list next. [edit]Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't he already offering the mono kits as seen here? Although I guess that's not a headamp specific kit, my bad, i suck, i'm stopping the edits now... Quote

Yes yes, sorry my fault for my vagueness. I was referring to headphone amp kits. Quote
Looser101 Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 http://tubecad.com/2007/08/blog0117.htm Woo! I wonder how it would do with Grados. It will do just fine with Grados as long as you use the right tubes and make a couple minor changes. I'm almost famous now... he linked to my amp that was pictured on head-fi. Renato Quote
hungrych Posted August 26, 2007 Author Report Posted August 26, 2007 Jeez, you have some huge caps there. Quote
Looser101 Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 Jeez, you have some huge caps there. Unfortunately large value film caps are HUGE. Renato Quote
Nanoha Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 Unfortunately large value film caps are HUGE. Renato And relatively expensive. Quote
fierce_freak Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 I'm interested in this...to use it as a headamp, just the regular octal or 9-pin kit will do, right? Quote

As far as I know the kits currently listed on the site are spec'd for preamp duty, the headphone amp kits should be coming out soon and will use tweaked parts values and components. Quote
philodox Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 Or you could just PM looser101 and he can tell you how to tweak the current boards. Quote
thrice Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 I've got one of these about half built as well....gah and I'm waiting to get an OPUS Dac too, too many projects. Quote
DigiPete Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 Doesn't the OPUS DAC have electolytic caps in the signal path.... Quote
thrice Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 huh, I guess it does....hadn't looked at the schematic yet. I did hear one at the MD meet though and thought it sounded pretty good. Quote
DigiPete Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 Its gonna need boutique coupling caps like auricaps or mundorfs to sound its best... Quote
fierce_freak Posted August 31, 2007 Report Posted August 31, 2007 or you could put a zapfilter in there i can confirm that the opus does have electrolytics in the signal path, but it still sounds great. I'm sure it would sound even better with good coupling caps. My preference is shorting them and going with the zapfilter, though Quote
