swt61 Posted August 14, 2023 Author Report Posted August 14, 2023 The one cleat should be plenty. Just make sure it's secured with screws every 6" or so. 1 Quote
Voltron Posted August 14, 2023 Report Posted August 14, 2023 I wonder if the somewhat small tab set in the dado is a possible point of failure. If it is plywood that is probably less important but I still might want a pocket screw or two into the cleat on each end. It looks like you already glued it in so maybe just drill a pilot hole at an angle and put a screw on each end to add strength so all the weight isn't hanging on the tabs and the glue joint. š¤·š»āāļø 1 Quote
Craig Sawyers Posted August 14, 2023 Report Posted August 14, 2023 as a tool cabinet as you say it's going to have to survive quite a bit of weight. I'd use more than one cleat. I screwed mine to the wall with some fuck off screws Ā 1 Quote
swt61 Posted August 14, 2023 Author Report Posted August 14, 2023 All of Jeff's tools are carbon fiber and titanium, so ultra light weight. Al does make a good point about the extra screws into the sides of the case from the inside of the cleat. If you have one of these portable PS jigs, then you can still drill them in place. Quote
swt61 Posted August 15, 2023 Author Report Posted August 15, 2023 Assuming the walnut back is 3/4" or so, I'd just screw 1 1/4" screws from the middle of the cleat straight into the back, every 6" or so. Quote

swt61 Posted August 16, 2023 Author Report Posted August 16, 2023 I think the problem is your putting panda semen where the unicorn semen should go. Quote
VPI Posted August 16, 2023 Report Posted August 16, 2023 I am at the phase of the project where I am trying to hide my design flaws. At this point the top of the cabinet has exposed cherry plywood that I want to hide. Tried a first fix with the left over walnut from the drawer front but it was not long enough to run across the whole top or thick enough to recess all the way into the gap. I cannot decide if I like the wood, or the design, but do not want to mess with a whole new cherry top to cover the plywood and endgrain.Ā Ā Ā 1 Quote
swt61 Posted August 16, 2023 Author Report Posted August 16, 2023 (edited) So it won't be mounted high enough where you won't see it? I'd just buy a small roll of cherry edge banding.
