Also want to point out to Mr. Positivity that the hearing protection hanger I printed is still going strong.

It did not, in fact, break within a week.

I just use the iVac remote, works great anywhere in the shop.

Which dust collector do you have?  Did you buy all the extra shit to allow the iVac remote to work with a dust collector with magnetic power switch?

ClearVue, goes direct to the motor.

I think I mentioned this before, check all the power adapters for the blast gates and make sure they are AC/AC not AC/DC.

You obviously don’t use your holder for also hanging your brass balls like I did.

Ahh. I guess the ClearVue does not have the stupid ass magnetic switch. I have to run like to extra controllers and still use the shitty Oneida remote to run everything if I want auto DC turn on/off with the Oneida.

No way I could fit something as tall as the ClearVue in here but I tried to figure out a way.

Wire directly to the motors or do they have something else funky going on since they use vacuum motors?

Typically you can buy the Magentic Switch Controller and wire it inline after the magnetic power switch.

They are working directly with Oneida on the option they quoted me and it appears to be a customized magnetic switch controller and a customized shitty Oneida remote.

Need to find out why the second “custom” Oneida remote is needed.

Oneida remote sucks brass balls. There are work around options online but I haven't done anything yet.

Oddly enough, I managed to collapse the 6" hose connecting the drum to the Supercell today. Not quite sure how, but I was planing redwood and it was over full before I noticed the flashing red light.

That is fucking impressive.  The 4” hose will knock a house off its foundation if you don’t watch where you swing it. I assumed I could connect train cars with the fucking 6”.

No idea how that could even happen, but I will be watching for the flashing red light.

Working on a way to mount a base into this three sided mail tray heading to Missouri. Need to keep the rainbow poplar thick for the best look so might have to cut a rabbet in the poplar with 1/4” left to slot into a 1/4” groove in the maple. Then maybe some space balls to allow for expansion.

Bought a new Woodworker II for the table saw and I guess my others were so dull that I have to move the brake cartridge to even fit this new one on. Guess I should have sent them for sharpening a long time ago.

Scratch that. Did not pay attention and bought the 10 1/4” blade.

Also, improvement for Dust Collection at the CNC is massive. So much better than the standalone 750CFM Dust Right that used to sit next to it.

So much more suction that the flexible hose whipped up to the ceiling and took out all the magnets on the bandsaw next to the CNC.

Did the Carbon method on my two shittiest cast iron surfaces, the bandsaw and the jointer. Shopfox seems to use the shittiest cast iron.

Went on easily but I think it is too cold/dry to really apply it as they say 50 degrees at the lowest and my shop is right around 57 these days.

They definitely look a lot better now. We will see what the glide stuff does tomorrow after these 4 coats cure.

My brother had his new garage designed to emulate the oldest building in town, which is called the Woodside Store and is now a museum. The back side has a wrap around covered porch like the original shown below.

Tom took me there last week to show me some benches and feed troughs that he thought were cool. He wondered whether I might be able to replicate them with the reclaimed redwood that Steve and I have been using to panel his wife's tack rooms. Here are some lousy pics of the originals.

I brought a stack of the redwood home to finish planing and milling and decided to take a stab at them. I didn't do measurements but used those pics to make designs and a template that I used for the bench legs and trough dividers. Here are some crappy pics of the two benches, one standing trough and one low one I made.

I like it, Al, but it has a coffin-like feeling that I find kind of disturbing.

I can't afford a real coffin and plot, so he's killing two birds with one stone. Now I'll have a place to rest.

Awesome work Milo!

Had no idea the Hammer bandsaw came with seating. Fancy.

Really like that Redwood. Cannot really get it easily around here.

Speaking of wood, is the considered quilted maple or one of the other million types of figuring?

You can't find redwood like this around here, except on old buildings. I like new redwood too, but I should put a piece of current stuff next to this 75+ year old wood to show how different it looks.

I don't know what to call that maple other than beautiful

Milled and drilled the Moxon vice.

Determined that the under mount drawer for the woodpecker table does not work for me as it just takes too much of the travel of my limited drill press. Cannot even get the whole Wood Owl auger bit set on the drill press when the drawer in place.  Really handy for storage but I guess it only works on a free standing drill press.

Determined that the new Fisch Forstner bit kit is a big step up from the Woodcraft one I was using.

Determined that a drill press that can spin at slower than 1350 RPM is dramatically better for these big bits.

The Arm-R-Seal makes it a bit yellow but it will need all the strength it can get thrown around in my shop.

Also, the Supercell Turbo does not seem to work with the big shavings from the drill press. Started making crazy noise and seems to have completely jammed up as the barrel lifted right off the ground.

Posted

Large shavings jammed it up? That's pretty weird, only issue I have with mine is it works so well, it can fill up the chute at the end of the cyclone faster than gravity can dump it into the can. Next system will have a rotary airlock.

Posted (edited)

Yeah, went to a higher pitch roar and the flex hose that goes down to the drill press retracted and the barrel lifted from the floor. Thought it was something stuck in the run, but switched to the other trunk and had the same issue. Something in the cyclone maybe, not sure.

Only other issue I had with it is suction is so high that if you do not clamp a board down it will suck the board across the table and up into the spinning drill bit.

I like the tone the Arm-R-Seal gives the burled Maple top of the Colossus. The entire Colossus is finished in 5 coats of Arm-R-Seal, and even over a dozen years later it looks great.

Coated the SawStop and the Planer today with the Carbon Method stuff. Mostly just helped to clean up the top of the SawStop a bit. Probably should have cleaned it more before sealing as it was a bit of a mess and tons of scratches from the Incra sled. CC67A65D-5206-4836-B352-FE07B89F3F5A.thumb.jpeg.a9db492f991ef7266ec82c270f7611fa.jpeg

Also wrapped up the neverending mail tray project so will be glad to get it out of the shop. Really do not like the shape of this but was not willing to do a ton of work on this Kasia BFF freebie. E22B0520-06DA-4DEF-9642-A27A9D0A894C.thumb.jpeg.6429572b2e1b9b9eef05365157724d95.jpeg

After spending the day milling lumber, I am once again convinced this wood shop only works with employees to do the shit work for me. What is minimum wage these days?
