blessingx Posted October 17, 2022 Report Posted October 17, 2022 The Guardian seems to love the two fantasy shows.
TMoney Posted October 24, 2022 Report Posted October 24, 2022 No complaints about the GOT season. I enjoyed it very much. Started The Peripheral over the weekend. Might this be the Amazon adaptation of a book from a beloved author that is worth watching? First two episodes have me very intrigued indeed! 2
swt61 Posted October 24, 2022 Report Posted October 24, 2022 This seems to be pretty well done. With the added bonus of actually being filmed in Anchorage. I recognize all of the buildings and locations. Even filming inside The Captain Cook hotel, where I once worked. 4
blessingx Posted October 25, 2022 Report Posted October 25, 2022 For the hell of it, knowing nothing about the show, wanted to see if I could find a review of Alaska Daily that didn’t mention Northern Exposure. Rolling Stone? TV Guide? LATimes? Hollywood Reporter? Chicago Sun-Times? C’mon guys, there must be one. I give up. 1
swt61 Posted October 25, 2022 Report Posted October 25, 2022 (edited) That's funny. It has nothing in common with Northern Exposure, but since series about Alaska (withstanding reality shows, which really have nothing to do with reality) are rare, the comparisons will abound certainly. I imagine the show will be more fun for myself, because of the buildings and locations that I know well. Same can be said of the local viewpoints, which they've actually captured well. It does make me homesick, so hopefully they'll film in winter to break that spell. 😁 Edited October 25, 2022 by swt61 1

Started watching The Peripheral. Pretty good; only watched the first episode but will try to catch some more this weekend.
blessingx Posted October 31, 2022 Report Posted October 31, 2022 (edited) White Lotus 2. Great characters setup opening episode. Edited October 31, 2022 by blessingx 3
TMoney Posted October 31, 2022 Report Posted October 31, 2022 ^ Same. I'm ready for a trip to Sicily! 2
swt61 Posted November 3, 2022 Report Posted November 3, 2022 This is pretty good. Stanley Tucci is excellent. 2
blessingx Posted November 5, 2022 Report Posted November 5, 2022 (edited) Shantaram. Four episodes in and while it plays like the book is likely even better and can come across a little white savior-y, it's a pretty compelling story and well visualized. Highly recommended you check it out if you have AppleTV+. Alternatively the Hollywood Reporter calls it "sprawling, meandering and inconsistent." 😶 Edited November 6, 2022 by blessingx
Torpedo Posted November 7, 2022 Author Report Posted November 7, 2022 The Good Fight, 6th season Last chapter airs the 10th, so I started catching up yesterday. Mixed feelings so far.
blessingx Posted November 13, 2022 Report Posted November 13, 2022 Anyone checking out The English? Halfway through the limited series and entertaining so far. 2
Grahame Posted November 15, 2022 Report Posted November 15, 2022 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annika_(British_TV_series) An Enjoyable Police Procedural, with an unusual setting, and plenty of breaking the fourth wall. Derived from a BBC Radio Show , that ran for 6 series ... https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b049fg98/episodes/guide With Nicola Walker playing the eponymous lead in both. Now on PBS / Masterpiece https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/shows/annika/ The Theme tune / song is evocative. 2

Torpedo Posted November 15, 2022 Author Report Posted November 15, 2022 The Old Man It was recommended to me. Two first episodes a bit slow for my taste, then it gets better but not great so far.

MoonShine Posted November 16, 2022 Report Posted November 16, 2022 ^I'm enjoying The Peripheral as well and agree, great book. 1
blessingx Posted November 19, 2022 Report Posted November 19, 2022 (edited) Initial episodes of Fleishman Is in Trouble are fun, especially likely to divorcees and/or parents. Edited November 19, 2022 by blessingx 1
