postjack Posted August 20, 2007 Author Report Posted August 20, 2007 Matt Anker's full assessment of the 3930 is now posted http://www.sacdmods.com/DVD3930.htm looks amazing.
postjack Posted August 20, 2007 Author Report Posted August 20, 2007 when are you getting yours? ha! i dunno, i'm a bit torn on where to spend my moneys next.
909 Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 i can't wait to hear the improvement over stock!
DigiPete Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 Matt is waiting to get a Dexa clock, apparently the clock freq used in the 3930 is not too common, he thinks he will have it this week.... I hope.
laxx Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 Any of you guys have any opinions on the McCormmack UDP-1?
n_maher Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 If anyone is looking, jp#'s listed his Exemplar modded Denon 2900.
Salt Peanuts Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 If anyone is looking, jp#'s listed his Exemplar modded Denon 2900. I wonder how that thing compares to similarly modified Denon 3910/3930.
DigiPete Posted August 26, 2007 Report Posted August 26, 2007 That would be a difficult question to answer, but the 3910 adds the newer 1796 Dac vs. the 1790(or 91) of the 2900, and AL24+ processing (I think) The 3930 adds to the above a linear power supply, dual dacs per channel, and the new Advanced AL24 processing. Still, I bet that unit sounds very nice.
DigiPete Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Getting excited to see a picture of my actual player with XLRs installed Clock should have gone in today, and then coming back home
postjack Posted August 30, 2007 Author Report Posted August 30, 2007 very cool! eagerly awaiting your impressions.
n_maher Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 The peanut gallery wants to know how hard it would have been for the to use black screws to match what was already there? I mean seriously, I'm guessing that you're paying a not-insignificant amount of coin for the mods. Otherwise I'm psyched you're getting your player back and hope it sounds sweet.
postjack Posted August 30, 2007 Author Report Posted August 30, 2007 ...I'm guessing that you're paying a not-insignificant amount of coin for the mods. Standard mods + XLR runs around $1250 according to the web site. Interesting! I just noticed that Matt is selling his personal 555es to upgrade to the 3930! He must really be impressed with it.
PFKMan23 Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Is he somehow unable to have the standard orientation on those XLRs as well?
DigiPete Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 I think he has sandwiched the XLRs between two pc boards in the unit, so it was super tight.
postjack Posted September 7, 2007 Author Report Posted September 7, 2007 OOOHHH the sweetness!! pix
DigiPete Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 I decided to come home after a half days work, and the DHL guy got there about 5 mins after I did, even though they were going to hold it for me to pick up after 4:00 pm. Anyways, the SACDmods Denon DVD-3930CI is in the house! So I put on the first SACD Norah Jones - come away with me -- fucking mistake! Here voice breaks up all over the first track and others, like the mic is clipping.... I thought oh shit, the player is fucked up...... Then I pop in Groove Note True Audiopohile..... Wow. The detail is incredible... but not bright at all, no harshness whatsoever, still listening... Tons of deep but tight bass, I can hear the scrapings of of the brushes, super quiet marracas I didn't hear before, the sound of strings being plucked.... I will pop in a few more CDs and make some observations
Dusty Chalk Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 postpixplzkthnx And: what was wrong with Norah Jones? I know you're too busy listening to music that doesn't break up to care, but report back once you find out.
DigiPete Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 the breaking up mic... its in the recording.... I like Norah
DigiPete Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 No time spent to put it into the rig, just put it on the floor and get it on! The separate psu: The XLRs in back:
