philodox Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 http://www.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=253503 Jeezus... a natural V shaped EQ and you need to ram pieces of power cord into the earcups to make them fit properly! Themz some good headfones!
hYdrociTy Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 But they is loud You'd think the price itself would steer people away.
granodemostasa Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 LOL. the ED9 is a very unique headphone, for very particular music tastes.
postjack Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 Every time I get curious about the sound I run into a post where sovkiller is pimping them, then I am no longer curious.
grawk Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 In all seriousness, they're okay. In all seriousness, they're only ok if you don't know what the music you're listening to sounds like. They get timbre completely wrong.
deepak Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 So they're like every Sony headphone (save for maybe the R10)? And they're good for reproducing the beeps and bloops in electronic music?
Nanoha Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 In all seriousness, they're only ok if you don't know what the music you're listening to sounds like. They get timbre completely wrong. True. Yeah... the timbre.... Yeah, they suck.
deepak Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 If a $1500 headphone can't do what a HD580 can do something is clearly wrong.
hYdrociTy Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 Some ultrapriced headphones are like... luxury/lifestylish items. Wood and shiny metal added doesn't sound good. It satisfies the target audience (adult well off, mostly men's) appetite for pretty wood and shiny metal and big price tags.

mulveling Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 Yay, an Edition 9 bashing thread, let me join in the fun I wanted to like these, I really did, but the mids are bit too far on the cold and sterile side. The HP1000 pulls off a cool-ish midrange quite nicely, but the Ed9 is no HP1000. The tone of the bass is unnatural and incapable of conveying texture. The soundstage is very closed-in and restricted, probably even more than some John Grados (RS1). Not a terrible sounding headphone overall, but IMO it's handily outperformed by the HD650, which can be had for $300 NEW, less than 1/3rd the cost of the Ed9. It's also outperformed by other headphones that come in well under the $1500 MSRP, including the JVC DX1000. Oh yeah, and the plastic headband looks like crap. The box is ok, but not super nice. I didn't really go to town on these at head-fi, but I feel more comfortable doing so here
purk Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 Damn...I feel right at home. I've been waiting for some bashing thread of the UE9 for awhile. They sound good for rock but nothing else really for me. Too much raving of the UE9 on headfi right now and this really make me sick. I agree complete with timbre and their strange's presentation as well as recessed midrange.
NotoriousBIG_PJ Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 Isn't the edition 9 a rebadged edition 7 at $1000 less? We all know how favourable those were. Biggie.
Iron_Dreamer Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 Isn't the edition 9 a rebadged edition 7 at $1000 less? I don't think so, at least not exactly. When I heard the E7, it had a serious, Ety-like lack of bass. Whereas the E9 had monster bass. I'd be really surprised if they were the same headphones.
