I just got an 80 gig ipod. I have a macbook pro, and a desktop pc. Thing is, all of my storage is on the pc. What would the advantage be to running my ipod off of the mac (and I guess mapping the storage over) or using it just natively on the pc with windows file system. What is the benefit of using the ipod with mac in general?

This is a retarded question, but I guess I'm stuck cuz i haven't started importing music to it cuz i cant make my mind up.

yea, but it just feels kinda dumb not using it on the mac, theres gotta be something it does better with it? The thing was made by apple. Am i missing something? I dunno. Figured it was worth considering atleast.

I dont even really use mp3s. I'm going to need to just keep an archive of music somewhere. Also not quite sure how easy it will be to convert dvds to mp4 on the mac as well. I already got a windows program to do that.

iTunes works the same pretty much either place. Just upload from the pc. playback is different, but for loading the ipod, just go ahead and use the pc.

I would say do it on Windows. There are all sorts of utilities on Windows for retrieving files back from your iPod -- I don't know if the same can be said of the Mac. You know, just in case a sync deletes all your files on your computer.

I say use it with the one you want. I use my iPod w/Windows and everything is simple. Just install iTunes and load it up. If you don't want to use iTunes for listening, then just don't.
