episiarch Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 BBC3 show found at random, "Snog Marry Avoid?" I switched it on mainly to enjoy being appalled by it (I guess...or something like that) and it was appalling, but less so than I expected. The premise is that fashion-disaster volunteers are offered a "makeunder" during which they're relieved of their false eyelashes, hair extensions, instant-tan products, backless metallic push-up tops and the like, scrubbed and coiffed, and clothed in things generally accepted as respectable while being berated (good-naturedly, they play along) by the makeover technician. Random members of the public are surveyed for their responses to the before and after photos (hence the name of the show). The makeunders seem genuinely surprised at how many people find find their attempts at hawtness make them avoid-at-all-costs scary instead, and how many people think they look terrific when they keep it simple and look like normal humans. Some even keep the new look. In other words the show is cheap crass entertainment in service of good taste. It actually kind of works.
n_maher Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 The meter on my Monster Power unit act like a Vu meter as the lights flick on and off. I did not realize that NH had a hurricane season, but evidently it does, in February.
episiarch Posted March 1, 2010 Report Posted March 1, 2010 Second season of Life. Missed it while it was being broadcast, really enjoying catching up on it now.
laxx Posted March 3, 2010 Report Posted March 3, 2010 poor Chuck Serious. I wouldn't have let either of them go. What's wrong with him.
deepak Posted March 8, 2010 Author Report Posted March 8, 2010 National Geographic A Traveler's Guide to the Planets. Sort of hoaxy and catering to the masses, but otherwise not bad.
grawk Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 the oscars. This year they said "and the winner is" instead of "the award goes to"...
The Monkey Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 I like that. No sense beating around the bush.
grawk Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 It meant everyone who wasn't a winner, was a loser
laxx Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 Finally started Caprica. On the pilot from last year, lol. I was shocked to see boobage, wasn't this on sci-fi then?
Salt Peanuts Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 House. it's officially become sci-fi. x2.
deepak Posted March 17, 2010 Author Report Posted March 17, 2010 Action. Comedy TV series about Hollywood from the late 90s. Jay Mohr is funny
Salt Peanuts Posted March 18, 2010 Report Posted March 18, 2010 Southpark S14E01 Jebus, I can't believe it's been on for 14 years now. I probably still have the Jusus vs. Santa clip that went through the web before it got picked up by Comedy Central.
Salt Peanuts Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 Tried watching Life on Discovery but I couldn't stand Oprah's narration. I'll have to wait for the release of Blu-Ray version in June.
