Craig Sawyers Posted December 12, 2016 Report Posted December 12, 2016 (edited) Saw him with Carole around 25 years ago in some London arena (forget where), and maybe four years ago in Birmingham with Lizzie - front row seats right in the middle bang in front of the keyboards (20 feet away) and the laser harp even closer. Much longer ago a good friend made the trek out to London Docklands https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtTsCbfXZuQ in the pouring rain for one of his greatest outdoor extravaganzas - I unfortunately missed that one. But that was a great heads up Dusty - cheers! Edited December 12, 2016 by Craig Sawyers 1
Dusty Chalk Posted December 12, 2016 Report Posted December 12, 2016 Yeah , the Docklands gig is legendary .
Sechtdamon Posted December 13, 2016 Report Posted December 13, 2016 This. Heck... Tyll has more beard than I do now. 2
Dusty Chalk Posted December 21, 2016 Report Posted December 21, 2016 That's some pretty fucking ____ growth, dude! Me: Reggie Watts: Spatial (dude makes me giggle every 5 minutes, at least) and The OA.
Voltron Posted December 23, 2016 Report Posted December 23, 2016 The OA. Essentially ridiculous. But there are Stax electrostats. 1
Dusty Chalk Posted December 23, 2016 Report Posted December 23, 2016 Yeah, the premise is borderline intolerable, but there's enough good stuff around it that it's still worth watching.
Dusty Chalk Posted December 23, 2016 Report Posted December 23, 2016 Man in the High Castle -- I really hated that they adulterated the original story with a love triangle, but...that all washed away in the first 5 minutes of season 2...goddamn, I forgot how great this is.
Dusty Chalk Posted December 24, 2016 Report Posted December 24, 2016 Any good? I really didn't like the way the first season ended with all that weird montage business. If it's more of that, I'll pass.
grawk Posted December 24, 2016 Report Posted December 24, 2016 it was definitely more of what the first season was, plus lots of Wachowski orgy montages 1
jpelg Posted January 1, 2017 Report Posted January 1, 2017 (edited) Travelers (Netflix original) - A well done sci-fi, time travel genre series. An easy binge. Edited January 1, 2017 by jpelg
grawk Posted January 1, 2017 Report Posted January 1, 2017 The OA It's pretty intense. We made it 3/8 of the way through it yesterday.
TMoney Posted January 2, 2017 Report Posted January 2, 2017 (edited) American Experience: The Battle of Chosin Exceptional documentary from PBS on one of the definitive and representative battles of the little discussed Korean war. The story of the battle, the heroism, sacrifice, and courage of the soldiers and marines, Chosin's significance in the Korean conflict, and the battle's lasting legacy are all here and all very well done. History/Military History fans, check this one out. Also, kudos to the producers and interviewees for going out of their way to describe the equally amazing courageousness and sacrifice of the battle's other two major participants, namely the Chinese soldiers and the Korean civilians caught in the crossfire. Can be streamed on Youtube here: Edited January 2, 2017 by TMoney 3
Dusty Chalk Posted January 3, 2017 Report Posted January 3, 2017 The Man in the High Castle, season 2 -- that was amazing.

TMoney Posted January 3, 2017 Report Posted January 3, 2017 2 hours ago, Dusty Chalk said: The Man in the High Castle, season 2 -- that was amazing. Good adaptation of the PKD original or something that should be considered its own thing?
EdipisReks1 Posted January 3, 2017 Report Posted January 3, 2017 Just now, TMoney said: Good adaptation of the PKD original or something that should be considered its own thing? The only possibility of a "good" adaptation of PKD is one which comes with two tabs of acid for every ep, to be fair.
Dusty Chalk Posted January 3, 2017 Report Posted January 3, 2017 4 hours ago, TMoney said: Good adaptation of the PKD original or something that should be considered its own thing? Definitely should be considered its own thing. Has there been a faithful adaptation of anything PKD did? Maybe A Scanner Darkly, but there's a long and sordid history of taking liberties with adaptations of his material.
jpelg Posted January 7, 2017 Report Posted January 7, 2017 (edited) Daredevil (Netflix original series) - Seasons 1 and 2 are both outstanding. Highly recommended if you haven't seen already & are into that sort of thing. Moving on to Jessica Jones and then Luke Cage after that. Edited January 7, 2017 by jpelg 1
muskyhuntr Posted January 7, 2017 Report Posted January 7, 2017 Just finished Daredevil myself, excellent. Watched Luke Cage and Jessica Jones last week, awesome. Can't wait for Iron Fist and the Defenders later this year. Me 2
EdipisReks1 Posted January 8, 2017 Report Posted January 8, 2017 Wow. Uh, The Untouchables was a lot better, when I saw it on VHS, during middle school.
swt61 Posted January 11, 2017 Report Posted January 11, 2017 Obama's farewell address. I'm going to miss this President! I have real fear about the next 4 years. I've been disappointed in past elections, but never had an outright tangible sense of panic. 5
muskyhuntr Posted January 11, 2017 Report Posted January 11, 2017 (edited) I have the same feeling. America has a dark cloud over it and it's getting darker. My feelings for hope are being replaced by dread. Me Edited January 11, 2017 by muskyhuntr
ironbut Posted January 11, 2017 Report Posted January 11, 2017 I was very touched by Obama's farewell speech. Sometimes I can hardly believe how far forward we've gone in the last 8 years. And even though I can't deny that there will be serious ground lost during Trump's 4 years, I'm still hopeful that some good will come out of it.
Dusty Chalk Posted January 11, 2017 Report Posted January 11, 2017 I'm less concerned about ground lost than doing permanent damage. I'm hoping he is revealed as an alien (or whatever) sooner than later. Me: Goblin: The Lonely and Great God (Korean soap opera?) -- really interesting show, but not sure what it wants to be -- an adventure, a fantasy, a romantic comedy, the odd couple? The premise is interesting, and the girl is adorable. I caught up (more or less) on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., I think I've given up on Arrow and Flash. Not sure about the others yet.
