Dusty Chalk Posted April 28, 2013 Report Posted April 28, 2013 Okay, I think they lost me with the dream sequence. Moving on to Continuum. I really like the casting of Rachel Nichols for the lead in this, she carries just the right combination of toughness and vulnerability. Or maybe she's just disarmingly pretty.
jpelg Posted April 28, 2013 Report Posted April 28, 2013 I liked "Continuum" quite a bit. It has a proper combination of sci-fi & human relationships, with a focus on the latter. Plus your comments re: Nichols' toughness, vulnerability, & pretty are spot on. 1
jpelg Posted April 28, 2013 Report Posted April 28, 2013 "Luther (Season 2)" - liked a lot, great ending ep, although it felt a bit rushed. "Rectify" - opening ep was interesting. Slow-burn kind of start, which I don't mind. Will continue to see where it goes. DVR-ed the "Top of the Lake" marathon yesterday, so will check that out in the next days.
shellylh Posted April 28, 2013 Report Posted April 28, 2013 (edited) Luther is great, wish there were more seasons. We've been watching The Wire season 4 (the school season), it is fantastic! Edited April 28, 2013 by shellylh
spritzer Posted April 28, 2013 Report Posted April 28, 2013 A third series of Luther is due this year...
Dusty Chalk Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Huzzah! That means we should get it over here across the pond in about 2015.
Dusty Chalk Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Some of us are far too lazy to pirate.
Grahame Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Or shortly after broadcast to air. That's normally when the (region 2) DVD's are available on amazon.co.uk
Dusty Chalk Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Lollers. We use the words, "straight to video" to mean "not cinema quality", whereas you there seem to refer to it as an efficient business pattern.
spritzer Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Some of us are far too lazy to pirate. That I truly don't get.
Tari Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Been watching Da Vinci's Demons, they just aired the third episode. It's preposterous and sort of gumbo hodge podge mess of the secret society conspiracy genre, but it still manages to be pretty entertaining, especially when Leonardo whips out his steampunk-y inventions and they actually work. Sets and soundtrack are surprisingly decent for a channel like Starz, they've been ramping it up since the success of Spartacus. Also watched some Happy Endings as a friend recommended it and I have two conclusions. 1) This is the worst version of a Scrubs style comedy I've seen 2) Elisha Cuthbert has the worst comedic chops I've seen in a while. It largely has to do with the inability of her face or voice to convey any real expression.
jpelg Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 I love "Happy Endings"! Elisha is hilarious and hot. So sad to see it cancelled
Dusty Chalk Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 Continuum continues to be all kinds of pleasing. Dan, if you haven't already, you especially should watch this. At least up to episode 4 (which is where I am) -- remember when you said that science fiction should investigate the morality of technology -- well, let's just say I think you'd enjoy this. That I truly don't get. You have to add in the overhead of malware and you have to realize that I'm a bit of a masochist, so I don't just clean my computer, I try to figure out what happened. I won't even torrent at all. So although downloading -- in and of itself -- is less costly than "waiting for it", it takes more of my time. Much more. I really need to get into Qubes, I think maybe then. EDIT: Okay, that's just silly, I'm watching it.
Dusty Chalk Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 Permanently gave up on Hemlock Grove, although I really liked the Shelley character. Gave up on Vampire Prosecutor, they just lost me with being too hard to follow -- so who was the killer in episode two, were there two? I don't get it. Finished Continuum -- yeah, that was wonderful...um, so is there or isn't there a season two? Started Top of the Lake -- yeah, digging it so far. And Holly Hunter in her best role! Or at least best makeup job. I was really worried she was going to stand out like a sore thumb as being the only recognizable actress but turns out? Not a problem...
spritzer Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 Finished Continuum -- yeah, that was wonderful...um, so is there or isn't there a season two? It's airing now in Canada. Ep 2.03 was yesterday....
Dusty Chalk Posted May 8, 2013 Report Posted May 8, 2013 Okay, so in one alternate reality (Canada) it exists, but in this one (USA) it doesn't? Top of the Lake -- well now, that was disturbing -- rape, pedophilia, incest -- this show had it all.
mikeymad Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 some people fall from space... http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html
Tari Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 This trailer is making me thirsty... Also, Family Tree on HBO has a lot of potential. A little dry as a lot of British humour tends to be, but Christopher O'Dowd is great and Christopher Guest definitely knows a thing or two about Mockumentaries. 1
HeadphoneAddict Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 looking forward to Arrested Development season 4, and season 2 of Veep as well.
Dusty Chalk Posted May 18, 2013 Report Posted May 18, 2013 Arrested Development -- I never finished it from when I started watching it way back when, then took it off Netflix before I was done, then put it back on.
spritzer Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 Given how many fans Luther has here, I thought you'd like this... http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/news/a482514/luther-to-return-to-bbc-one-this-summer-first-series-3-picture.html
Dusty Chalk Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 "14 years, you gotta be doing something right." "Well if you call 'not filing for divorce' something right..." Clue #2: Portia de Rossi's coming out speech, or quote from a television show: I think we're all figuring out who we are and what we really need in life and that can be painful however you can't really heal yourself until you stop living a lie.
