MexicanDragon Posted July 17, 2016 Report Posted July 17, 2016 (edited) Brunch with an old friend today. Spent a couple hours over 4 courses catching up on the past 10-15 years. Award Winning Wings Shawn was torn between the biscuit and gravy and the trout, so I said to go with the trout and we'd have Biscuit and Gravy for 2nd appetizer NC Rainbow Trout for my friend Chicken and Waffles Chocolate and Caramel Cheesecake Not pictured: 6 mimosas and an order of bacon. **BRENT** Edited July 17, 2016 by MexicanDragon 3
swt61 Posted July 17, 2016 Report Posted July 17, 2016 Is that gravy on the trout? I bow to your Southerness. 1
MexicanDragon Posted July 18, 2016 Report Posted July 18, 2016 "Dill crema" on the trout. But would have been better with gravy. **BRENT**

swt61 Posted July 20, 2016 Report Posted July 20, 2016 So that's a scone in GB? Can you describe it? It looks similar to what us yanks call a biscuit.
Craig Sawyers Posted July 20, 2016 Report Posted July 20, 2016 British scone recipe http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/scones_1285 My grandma (1897 to 1986) used to make these without scales to weigh anything out. And used plain flour with cream of tartar and bicarbonate of soda to make it self raising. They are the best scones I have ever tasted.
swt61 Posted July 20, 2016 Report Posted July 20, 2016 (edited) So it is denser than bread, like an American biscuit, but not as dense as an American scone, correct? Edit: OK, after reading that recipe, it looks like what you consider a scone is very similar to what we call a shortcake. Edited July 20, 2016 by swt61
Voltron Posted July 21, 2016 Report Posted July 21, 2016 Whatever the density or name, scones, clotted cream and jam is very tasty whether in the UK or Canada. Makes me hungry

And what they call a biscuit, we call a cookie. And what they call the boot, we call the trunk. And what they call suspenders, we call a bra. You all would probably like my gramma's "korzhiki". Basically, flour dough cookies. Great with tea! https://www.google.com/search?q=korzhiki
