swt61 Posted May 1, 2016 Report Posted May 1, 2016 Did it get rid of the rimming taste in your mouth? 1
Absorbine_Sr Posted May 1, 2016 Report Posted May 1, 2016 Pork tenderloin sous vide at 137F and then seared on the Weber and a salad of grilled radicchio and Belgian endive with a lemon juice, Dijon and olive oil vinaigrette. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 10
swt61 Posted May 2, 2016 Report Posted May 2, 2016 (edited) Looks like you're already getting better at rimming, but be aware of color. Rimming is always an optional activity. Edited May 2, 2016 by swt61 2
shellylh Posted May 2, 2016 Report Posted May 2, 2016 ^I knew we could count on Steve to comment on this. 1
VPI Posted May 4, 2016 Report Posted May 4, 2016 I saw those at Whole Foods and thought they might be good. I will have to try. 1
swt61 Posted May 4, 2016 Report Posted May 4, 2016 I don't understand Southerners and Okra. It's the nastiest, slimiest stuff ever. Even other squash don't like Okra, as you never see it in the squash section of the produce department. Thank goodness it has stunted growth, or it would be even worse!
shellylh Posted May 4, 2016 Report Posted May 4, 2016 Have you had Okra chips Steve, it's not slimy at all (they are dried).
swt61 Posted May 4, 2016 Report Posted May 4, 2016 I can deduce that they wouldn't be slimy, but I'm sure they still taste like old gym socks. I love most vegetables, and even recently turned a corner on Brussel Sprouts (once Mike and Deb showed me they're good when not boiled). But Okra, Lima beans & Hominy are nasty. I've explained Okra, Lima beans (and Butter beans) are not slimy, but taste no better than Okra, and Hominy is like someone covered corn in wax. 1
shellylh Posted May 4, 2016 Report Posted May 4, 2016 I still think you should try them, they are really good.

I'm curious what preparation this is coming from. I mean, don't get me wrong -- Interstellar (in which okra is the last plant food source on earth) is an apocalypse scenario, but by no means the worst. I've used canned okra in my chili-esque thing, and it was just fine. Even olives are slimier than okra. And I love olives. But I'll admit that they're slimy. I need to revisit okra.
jvlgato Posted May 4, 2016 Report Posted May 4, 2016 Yeah, I'm with Steve. That seems immediately repulsive to me. Yet, I will say that I've had pickled okra from a farmers market that surprisingly was pretty good. I'd be willing to give it a shot. Maybe.
grawk Posted May 4, 2016 Report Posted May 4, 2016 okra can be good or bad depending on how it's prepared 2
Augsburger Posted May 6, 2016 Report Posted May 6, 2016 I'm with Al and Colin and the margaritas of which I have had two celebrating CdM though I had empanadas which were very good but did not have any crab or even lobster in them which was Ok but I would have preferred lobster in my empanada even though I have never heard of any lobster empanada so there is that. Cheers! 4
swt61 Posted May 6, 2016 Report Posted May 6, 2016 So let me get this straight Shelly...Snotty, slimy, disgusting Okra gets high praise, but mouth watering, cheesy, gooey, delicious Crab Nachos elicit disdain? 4
shellylh Posted May 6, 2016 Report Posted May 6, 2016 Not a fan of crab so that just ruins the nachos. I also don't like okra when it is all slimy. Like Dan said, it all about how it is prepared.
