Dusty Chalk Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 I'm actually more surprised that you found a chocolate concoction that goes well with booze -- I don't usually find that to be the case. Me: samich. Only brief cute girl sighting. I think she reads this forum. CG -- I'm not going to chase you, you're half my age. But dang, in any other country, you'd be idolized.
jinp6301 Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 twix bar but man I want some tonkatsu. It haunts me.
Voltron Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 twix bar but man I want some tonkatsu. It haunts me. Did you read the book "Kitchen" by Banana Yoshimoto? That got me going on the quest for the perfect tonkatsu years ago and I still seek it.
jinp6301 Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 I have not. I'll check it out. Thanks for the recommendation.
Old Pa Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 Homemade white turkey chili with great northern beans, garbonzoes, heavy cream and very aromatic spicing. Garnish with sour cream and fresh chopped cilantro. Garlic sourdough bagette and glass of cab on the side. Tasty.
Dusty Chalk Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 (edited) Good choice on the sourdough, but right now I want some bbq. But for real: salmon red curry from Pilin. Edited January 12, 2010 by Dusty Chalk
grawk Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 boiled shrimp w/ old bay, and my cocktail sauce (horse radish, catsup, lemon juice, sriracha sauce, and wasabi corn w/ old bay
Old Pa Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 Costco had the coupon for $3.00 off a pork roast and that's all it took. Herb crusted pork loin roast with whole cranberry chutney. It's a Sandy Lee recipe from FoodNetwork which I changed a bit by studding the roast with whole garlic cloves. The roast going in: The house smelled wonderfully. And the roast coming back out: And the served plate: Loaded baked potato and a glass of cab. Spaniels approve!
Augsburger Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 Very delicious looking. Do your culinary skills come naturally or were you classically trained?

Duggeh Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 Old Pa merits a custom title for his culinary beauty.
Old Pa Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 Do your culinary skills come naturally or were you classically trained? Thanks guys, you are too kind. My mom liked to cook and try new stuff, although I never saw an onion or fresh garlic in her 'fridge. I grew up before fast food and being innundated by the media with bad nutritional choices. Since I've officed out of the house for more than a decade, more and more of the house-husband stuff has been falling to me. And cooking is something I generally like. Old Pa merits a custom title for his culinary beauty. I'm sure guzziguy would just love to pick it out, too.
tyrion Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 Not eating yet but in about 4 more hours: After 6 hours in the fridge with the dry rub about 2 hours in
909 Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 that's a nice looking hunk of meat. is it brisket, and what contraption are you cooking it in?
tyrion Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 that's a nice looking hunk of meat. is it brisket, and what contraption are you cooking it in? Brisket in a smoker with mesquite wood chips.
shellylh Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 Mike, that brisket looks delicious. I may just have to pick up some steak - it is a great day for BBQ - sunny and 62.
tyrion Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 I made some ribeyes last night with a spicy rub. Good stuff. On sale at Whole Foods.
shellylh Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Just grilled some "grass fed" strip steaks (cooked medium-rare) on the BBQ with mashed potatoes, broccoli and red wine on the side. Good.
xand1x Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Meatballs, rice, baby spinach, and carrots. Probably at least 2600+ calories in this meal...need to replace the ~2500-3000 burned over 6 hours of basketball
donunus Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Just having some rosquillos with my fresh arabica coffee
grawk Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 6 hrs of basketball probably burned 600 calories
