luvdunhill
I'd say that it depends on the model. I wouldn't have one of the newer coaxial mechanisms serviced outside the official network.Yeah, it's an 8508 movement. Ok, I guess the question is US service center or request it go back to Switzerland.
Torpedo
If they offer a six month minimum warranty for the service, I'd go with the US center. They should have the tools and spare parts needed, the skilled watchmakers but you'd save time and shipping cost.

If they aren't able to service it properly here, they will send it to Switzerland. 10 hours ago, Dave R said: I'm having my Jaeger LeCoultre master ultra thin serviced, and I've also enquired about a stainless steel bracelet for it. ATM it has a brown leather strap, but if their SS bracelet is available then my watch will look just like that in the photos. Sorry about the not so clear photo. That looks great on the bracelet. I'd be interested in knowing what the service ends up costing.

Direct in the US, direct to Switzerland or an Independent? When I had my wife's Omega Aqua Terra automatic serviced, I took it to Torneau here in H-town and they sent it off to Omega for servicing. Took a bit of time and it was not inexpensive, but they did do a beautiful job including cleaning up all the scuffs from the gold. Looked close to new. I sent my JLC master back to the place I got it from 3 days ago, and they in turn told me it was being sent to JLC specialists for that service, I was also told I'd receive a quote within around 10 days. I've since got in touch with a jewellers in Leeds that deals with JLC, and they quoted a service cost for that JLC model of £450.
Dave R
When I have the spare money, I might get a JLC Reverso with an exact or similar look to that in the photos, I'll still be keeping my master ultra thin, but with that master being a manual wind, I think I'll get a Reverso with quartz. EdipisReks1
Oh, don't get a quartz reverso. They make automatics. I wonder if JLC makes a bracelet that fits my GRUT.

I'm only considering a quartz reverso because the ones I've seen are less expensive than automatic and manual of that model, so quartz would suite my income, but for now I'm just having my JLC Master serviced and hopefully a JLC SS bracelet. Now I've an idea how much that service will cost, and I don't expect that bracelet to be cheap, but because to me that bracelet will add to the beauty of that watch, the cost will be worth it. Btw, why do you suggest not getting a quartz reverso ?
EdipisReks1
Because it's quartz.
luvdunhill
Because it's quartz. The exception being some of the HEQ Seikos, but yes - Reks speaks truth.

Received the quote from JLC with regards servicing my Master Ultra thin, along with a list of things they say needs doing, which is quite a long. So for everything done the cost is £598 plus 20% VAT which comes to £717.60, therefore because of JLC's recommendations I've decided to go for that full service. I also got a quote for a JLC SS bracelet for that model which was/is £1160, so I'll just have the service for now, although because I very much like the look of that bracelet, I may have one fitted when I've the spare money. With the expense of that bracelet though, will mean I won't bother getting a JLC reverso, or at least for quite sometime.
EdipisReks1
That service cost isn't terrible, outside of the VAT. I would get the bracelet, and buy the Reverso down the road, and I say that as somebody who loves his Reverso.

I'm reasonably happy with the quote given for servicing my watch, because according to JLC there are several new inside parts needed that'll be used, everything ultrasonic cleaned, then polished so it'll look pristine, I also think I'll get a JLC Reverso. However I'm now not going to bother getting a JLC SS bracelet because I've decided I'm going to exchange my manual wind master for an automatic master with a SS bracelet , and an automatic reverso also with SS bracelet, then get a double auto watch winder. Don't know how long it'll be before I have all mentioned, but they are what I'm getting.

I've decided to cancel that service of my JLC Master Ultra thin ( manual wind ) Reks, ( assuming I'm not too late ) and instead it's being used as part exchange for the JLC Master Ultra thin shown in the photos, but is an automatic. Now that automatic JLC also has a brown leather strap, so I'll eventually get a JLC SS bracelet for that watch. Before a bracelet though, I'll be getting a double auto watch winder from the same place I'm getting that auto JLC.

Hopstretch
I like the small seconds on the automatic -- gives it more visual interest -- and the cleaner dial. Noice!

Torpedo
Oh, I didn't mean you should back out, just telling my thoughts. To be honest I haven't tried any of those two beauties on my wrist (yet), I might well be sold on the automatic too. The manual on a black strap is the paradigm of what a dress watch should be. Sorry Torpedo, my mistake. I was very happy with that manual JLC, and enjoyed the winding which I did virtually everyday, it was/is also extremely comfortable, in fact so comfortable I could hardly feel it on. I just decided to go for an automatic of the same model, well I just fancied one, I also like the idea of putting it in an auto winder when not in use. I do think if/when you try on a JLC Master Ultra thin manual, you'll definitely fall in love with it, or at least I'd be surprised if you didn't.
