Looks very retro, ER.  I like it.

Sorry about the NS...you're far too young to be dealing with that.

HS

It would look great on your FOIS.  Send me your address, Sam.

Retro indeed!

The moon watch is the VW Beetle of watches. Pretty much the same for crazy life time of production. The VW made it to 3/4 of a century. I think the moon watch will do a bit better on that!

One of these days i will pick one up. I really loved the 40th and the reissue of the Apollo 11.

It will have to wait for me to try again, when my neuropathy calms down.

You should have bought a pre-moon 144.022-69 5 years ago :).  The car I learned to drive in was a '73 Beetle that my dad was constantly "restoring," I don't think he was ever actually going to finish, even when his brother owned a rather famous European auto and body shop, and we would drive down to Atlanta to use those services. The journey, not the destination.

Yea that is the thing about classics it is hard to devote the time needed to complete them unless that is your main passion. One of the people I work with has a red beetle from the 70s but cant recall the year. He really enjoys it. He bought it fully restored though. With all the shit he has to deal with now way he could do it himself. A friend in chicago used to have a 2cv, fuck he probably still has it but he moved to Scottsdale AZ.  I love the cars from those times but I know I just am not the right person to have them.

I can't be absolutely sure – they might be different people. The channel info on YouTube is relatively vague (and the spelling of the channel is slightly different and there are no mentions of the YouTube videos on the Naked Watchmaker site):

"The mission of The Nekkid Watchmaker is to strip away all the BS and snobbery in watchmaking and to encourage a new generation of watchmakers in to this wonderful art. In essence we are all Nekkid watchmakers. I'm a watchmaker specialising in service and restorations. I am a bit late to the youtube party but I thought I would start this channel for any watch lovers out there looking for some help, advice or just a discussion about watches. I have many years at the bench and also handle many watches each day, so I thought it would be a good idea to talk about some of the watches that pass through my hands. I will be doing reviews and tutorials on the subject."

That text is pretty much in the line of the change of mind that Peter Speake-Marin took when he decided to start the Naked Watchmaker website and stopping making watches under his brand.

When he said the Jaeger's movement was relatively simple I was scared of what a complicated one would look like.

I really like his conservationist approach to watch maintenance and restoration.

@blessingx

at this point you pretty much have to make a decision and post.

Ha. Thanks all for your help. In the end I went with a Magrette Regattare Tiki for a decent price in comparison to the other final choices. New Zealand Post, US Customs, and the local Post Office did everything they could to get it to me by 2024, but it arrived a couple days ago. A little too big, a little too heavy, but uncomplicated.

My partner is going to be here this weekend (very soon, in fact!) . I haven't seen her since February. She begged me to not wear an Apple watch while she was here, as I've been obsessed with my step count (I average about 30k daily). I was planning on wearing a Speedy, as I put one of mine on a NATO for summer. but for some reason this felt right (goes great with my Ren and Stimpy socks and Birkies).

Thanks! It’s been a great visit so far. We both tested negative for COVID last week and have essentially been in isolation, and we are taking normal precautions when around anybody (picking up good, etc).

it’s been nice wearing a real watch, though I’d prefer if the Rolex would unlock my computers automatically. :)
