Grand Enigma Posted December 5, 2015 Report Posted December 5, 2015 My daughter has been asking for a watch like daddy. She has been walking up to me about every 5min for the past few hours asking "Now what time is it!?!?" 6
luvdunhill Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 Well, the larger Grand Seiko limited JDM antimagnetic which has the 9S65, to go with the smaller HEQ version: http://www.ablogtowatch.com/grand-seiko-sbgr077-sbgr079-magnetic-resistant-watches-hands/ 6
luvdunhill Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 I don't expect anyone to understand
grawk Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 I could see that being a really good watch
Hopstretch Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 Very nice Marc! Lots of respect for GS. The Mrs. has been wanting a classic dress two-hander and doesn't love Calatravas, so I found her an older VC ultra thin (33093/3) for Christmas that I think will do the job. 6
Augsburger Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 You make a very good Christmas watch shopping consultant.
Dreadhead Posted December 12, 2015 Report Posted December 12, 2015 (edited) Well my Breitling Emergency started having a flashing screen last week (low battery) so ordered the correct battery and tried to do a battery replacement like I had done before. As I was opening the case my hand slipped and the watch and movement slid across the desk. Now it's totally dead though I can't see any physical damage or anything physically wrong. It just will not respond. This is going to cost a fortune with Breitling service USA. The only place I've ever wasted more money in a split-second is in a car. Edited December 14, 2015 by Dreadhead 1

Looks like a very nice watch to me. Chris, sorry to hear about the issue and here's to hoping it doesn't break the bank.
HeadphoneAddict Posted December 14, 2015 Report Posted December 14, 2015 (edited) I'd enjoy owning the Grand Seiko too. They're well made, and respected by those in the know. I recently pre-ordered a Nomos Glashutte Orion Midnight Limited Edition. And I have an older Seamaster Pro Bond Quartz shipping to me on Monday, just like the one I bought my son for his 18th birthday in 3 weeks so we can match (and yes, both from 1998 when my son was born - go ahead, make fun of me but I got a great deal on both). I'm considering switching the Nomos limited ed to an automatic Club Datum Dunkel. What say you? Edited December 14, 2015 by HeadphoneAddict
luvdunhill Posted December 14, 2015 Report Posted December 14, 2015 Well, I basically have two of the same watch (to the uninitiated). In reality one is an automatic and one is a HEQ, one is black dialed and one is white, one is no-date with gorgeous symmetry and the other has a date function. To most that would seem odd. 2
Dreadhead Posted December 14, 2015 Report Posted December 14, 2015 Decided to contact one of the Breitling Approved service centers to see if they'd be willing to take a look. Part of the reason I'm sure it will be a fortune from Breitling is they basically re-condition the watch and it's in need of a lot of that. I don't want any of that done (except for maybe a few spring pins replaced). Emailed Breitling and asked them to cancel the service request and will follow up with a call once they open. I really don't necessarily care if the watch isn't working but it would be nice to get it fixed. 1
CD44hi Posted December 14, 2015 Report Posted December 14, 2015 Here's hoping they accommodate your request and go minimal on the repair Chris Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1
Dreadhead Posted December 16, 2015 Report Posted December 16, 2015 Thanks for the information Jacob. I am not sure if I care if it's working or not.
Hopstretch Posted December 16, 2015 Report Posted December 16, 2015 What's the point of a watch that doesn't keep time? [emoji3]
Dreadhead Posted December 16, 2015 Report Posted December 16, 2015 What is the point of a watch that you don't use? The only reason I was going to fix it was my dad gave it to me but he said he didn't care if I fixed it. I will probably fix next year some time anyway.
Torpedo Posted December 23, 2015 Report Posted December 23, 2015 Glad she likes it, it's a nice watch
raffy Posted December 23, 2015 Report Posted December 23, 2015 Nice gift, Jacob! What did you get from Emily?
tyrion Posted December 23, 2015 Report Posted December 23, 2015 Nice gift Reks. So the guy who hated iPhones, now has an iPhone and Apple Watch. Since getting the watch, I have not worn any of my other watches (about a month). I am thinking of letting my Bremont Solo go, which is the only one that has any real value. If anyone is interested let me know. 1
naamanf Posted December 23, 2015 Report Posted December 23, 2015 $3.50, a cookie, and a bottle of Stagg. Nice gift Jacob. Beats my vacuum cleaner by a long shot.
Hopstretch Posted December 23, 2015 Report Posted December 23, 2015 Extended Christmas best Christmas. There was a minor flurry of last-minute watch buying and selling here too. Resulting in a decent deal on a Lange Saxonia manual. Very clean and classic from ze Chermans, I think. 4

That beats my NOMOS ORION when it comes to German watches. Still, I can't wait for it to get here. In the meantime, I can't seem to peel the Grey Side of the Moon off my arm lately. I love it on the Dark Side strap now, making it a little more casual and sporty to suit my style better. 4
