Voltron Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 Stupid white letters wrecking the blackness.
n_maher Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 While you were gone Peter, I got a watch I think you might approve of.
Dusty Chalk Posted October 31, 2008 Author Report Posted October 31, 2008 Stupid white letters wrecking the blackness. They're actually not that bright in real life.
tyrion Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 Welcome back Dusty. This may be my next watch. It's Swiss made, auto with ceramic case:
Dusty Chalk Posted October 31, 2008 Author Report Posted October 31, 2008 Alti, Baro, Compass, digital? Nice! Suunto? Supposed to be good, IIRC.
Dusty Chalk Posted October 31, 2008 Author Report Posted October 31, 2008 Welcome back Dusty.I am by no means back, just passing through.
n_maher Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 Yeah, it's an ABC Suunto Core watch. I like it, only bad reports I've heard are with respect to the accuracy of the altimeter (don't care) and that it's not all that great on battery life. So I bought a dozen batteries on Ebay for $10.
apnk Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 Welcome back Dusty. This may be my next watch. It's Swiss made, auto with ceramic case: Looks great, but I am not sold on the ceramic cases, what if you drop it or smash it on a hard surface? I ordered this German watch on Monday while the euro is weak compared to the dollar, but now the dollar seems to be going back were it was before. Can't wait to receive it! (pic not mine, found it on google.)
tyrion Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 Stowa is a nice watch. I'm told by the owner of the company that makes the ceramic watch that it would likely take a hard blow by a hammer to break the case. The bezel is the weakest part and is easily replaced. It will not scratch so under almost all circumstances it should hold up as good, if not better than a steel case.
Augsburger Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Just wait, the dollar is due to weaken more so than it has this past weak.
bhd812 Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 They also have a even darker "shadow" model of the Ocean7 lm-4
flecom Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 just curious what happened in this thread... is it now a post pics of your watch thread? lol cause the other post your watch threads havent had a response in over a year lol
Dusty Chalk Posted December 31, 2008 Author Report Posted December 31, 2008 Sort of -- post pics of your watch, post pics of others' watches, discuss watches, etc.
deepak Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Buying a Submariner off amazon.com, good or bad idea? My local AD wouldn't discount much even though we've bought from him before.
Dusty Chalk Posted January 6, 2009 Author Report Posted January 6, 2009 Amazon == good. But I guess it depends on the merchant -- a lot of those are filled by other than Amazon. I presume you mean Rolex...
deepak Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Yup you're right, sold by Jomashop. Weariness meter rising
Dusty Chalk Posted January 6, 2009 Author Report Posted January 6, 2009 Looks like they mostly do alright, but those two negative feedbacks look concerning: linky
deepak Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Yeah I saw that. It was mostly a concern if Rolex will honor a non-AD warranty. Not that I've ever heard of anything going wrong within the warranty period with Subs. I guess I'll look more into it, I'm a waffler anyway.
Dusty Chalk Posted January 14, 2009 Author Report Posted January 14, 2009 I'm selling my two Invictas and my one less black Nixon, if anyone's interested (which I doubt, so I'm not going to wait for an answer before I put them up on eBay, which will probably be this weekend). I just don't wear them any more, now that I got the Nixon all-black Private with which I'm very happy.
n_maher Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 deepak, I'd have a look around before buying something like that on Amazon. There's way too much shady in the watch business for me to buy something that like if there's even a hint at past bad performances. I've found pretty good advice here - Watchuseek Watch Forums - although I shop in a vastly different price category than you.

apnk Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 Have nothing to do so I guess I'll post a quick crappy pic of my Stowa Seatime: I think this one would be awesome for the summer, 1000m Prodiver:
grawk Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 hey dusty: Amazon.com: Invicta Reserve Men's Subaqua Venom Swiss Quartz Chronograph Watch: Watches
Dusty Chalk Posted March 1, 2009 Author Report Posted March 1, 2009 You specified one or more items that were already on your list.
