John E Woven Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 You bought an Audi? That is correct.
Dusty Chalk Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Sweet. My next car is going to be an A1.
Sherwood Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Funny. I am divesting myself of German cars forever after my last Audi (which Nate wisely warned me against).

n_maher Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Funny. I am divesting myself of German cars forever after my last Audi (which Nate wisely warned me against). Heh, my love for them persists but my desire to own one is gone. I would never own another VW/Audi that was not covered by a low-deductible comprehensive warranty. It seems you either get a bulletproof one or a near lemon, no inbetween. And nice office rig Mike!
tyrion Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 I have to get a new car in the next month. My last two VW, Eos and Touareg have been great. Not sure if I'm getting another one this time around. Although the CC seems nice.

tyrion Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 That is tempting but didn't you say to stay away.
grawk Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Just get the full bumper to bumper warranty
tyrion Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 I will take a look, I have so many cars from a Prius to a Jaquar XF in mind.
grawk Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 There's 0 chance I'd ever buy a jag...talk about a car that will make a vw look reliable
tyrion Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 There's 0 chance I'd ever buy a jag...talk about a car that will make a vw look reliable One of my partners has had his for 6 months without an issue. All I need is 3 good years.
grawk Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Lease with a bumper to bumper and any car should make it 3 years I tend to own cars a LOT longer
n_maher Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 One of my partners has had his for 6 months without an issue. All I need is 3 good years. Audi's standard warranty on new vehicles appears to be pretty comprehensive and is 4yr/50k.
Sherwood Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 60-70k is when all hell broke loose on mine, so as long as you get out of it by then I think you'll be cool.
tyrion Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 I typically put about 50k on a car in 3 years so I should be safe. Just not sure what I want. A part of me says get a Honda Insight, Toyota Prius or the new Lexus version. I don't pay for my car, insurance, gas or maintenance/repairs on the front end. The more we all spend the less there is at the end to split up. We have a soft upper end on the monthly payment but if I spend less, it doesn't come back to me, except a few extra $'s for the three of us to split up at the end of the year. I know, what a terrible problem to have.
Dreadhead Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 I just bought one of these: BC-558 Ironman Segmental Body Composition Monitor So my scale can tell me exactly how fat I am. Mike: XF
Voltron Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 I had two Audi A6s in a row and both were totally reliable. Honda and Toyota are out, Mike, those are non-starters for a man of your stature. Get the Lexus hybrid. I am loving mine.
Sherwood Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Next A6 I buy, then, I'm buying from you, Al. $7,000 in repairs this year and counting.
n_maher Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 the M5 is a nice car. Waaaaaaaaaay too fiddly in my book. The GS Hybrid looks like a nice car, but I'm not sure any of the current-production hybrids are really any better for the environment as a whole despite the fact that they may help reduce the amount of gas that you buy.

I have a lot of car shopping to do, what fun.
Voltron Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 I hear you but I'm not sure I care all that much about my stature. And yet, you are considering a Jag, the only good for the status champion? Seriously, chicks just can't dig a guy your age in a Prius. Simple as that. As for the environment/gas saving aspect, I think that air pollution/greenhouse gases/etc. are at the top of the heap, and the Lexus is a Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle and therefore much better than some of the sportier pure-gas competitors. Plus, it is the fastest sedan Lexus makes, so you got that going for you too!
luvdunhill Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 pretty expensive day on the DIY front. Bought a bunch of Neutrik parts at Mouser (mostly various PCB mount XLR jacks and parts for Team 4-pin XLR) and bunch of semiconductors. Upgraded my Diptrace License to the 1000-pin 4-layer version.
