laxx Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 And some kiddie basketball thing for my nieces.
Augsburger Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Another quad core pc with 6G of ram. Odd, I purchased my officeoffice and home office pcs at the same time six years ago and both decided to wank out on me three weeks apart. There must be an eclipse or something going on.
Dusty Chalk Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Did they have similar warranties? "Planned obsolescence".
laxx Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 6 years is pretty damn good. I haven't been able to live with the same computer for more than 2 years until the one I currently built. Still going strong!
Dreadhead Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 1.5tb hard drive to replace the one that my drobo cooked by "sticking" on and overheating and having to be unplugged. At least it didin't cook them all that would have wiped out all my music or photos. I now know not to let the drobo figure it out itself but just shut it down when acting weird. Also thinking of buying carbonite backup...

Six years is pretty good indeed if they are not DIY PC's. I have noticed the half-life of OEM PC's continuing to decline lately.
Augsburger Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 (edited) Did they have similar warranties? "Planned obsolescence". Identical, "Planned obsolescence" X2. Yeah, I am not really complaining I guess six yearsin computer years is nearly the equivalent of a century in human years. Besides I went from 250mg HD and 1.5 of ram to 1T and 6 gigs--- frickin' fast. It may be the honeymoon, or some type of placebo effect, but now Foobar sourced music through my external dac seems to sound better and more natural than the old system using the external dac and external soundcard. My old system was Win XP, perhaps the new Win is a win. Edited December 14, 2010 by Augsburger
emelius Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 wrist shots!...& i'd kinda like to see the movement...
Dusty Chalk Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 an Android Phantom Swiss 5 watch...for my mother. Can't believe I didn't think of this when I posted my query in the watches thread, I actually have one. It'll be perfect -- it's extremely thin and light, yet durable, with a large, easily legible face.
aardvark baguette Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 80 more 1oz. Silver Eagles
Dreadhead Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 one month subscription to mozy to see how long it's going to take to push my 200+gb of crap up onto the cloud...
aardvark baguette Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 I think it took something like 2 weeks for me to upload ~ 2 terrabytes. But not to mozy.

ujamerstand Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 A bag of transistors. But I got hit with 40 brokerage fees on top of import tax. I should've known better than to pick UPS as the shipping company...
aardvark baguette Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 What did you use? Backblaze. Couldn't be happier.
Dreadhead Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) Backblaze. Couldn't be happier. Damn. Should have asked. Did not look at Backblaze. Reading a bit about the incremental backup I think I may switch... only cost me an extra $6 or something... oh well. Edited December 15, 2010 by Dreadhead
laxx Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 2 Hello Kitty plush things and a kiddy lawn mower thing for my nieces.
Aura Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 I have noticed the half-life of OEM PC's continuing to decline lately. It's an unfortunate and intended result of product strategy from some asshole corporations. Inducing outdatedness through design = frequent consumer refreshing = more revenue. :/

Reading a bit about the incremental backup I think I may switch... only cost me an extra $6 or something... oh well. Its been awhile since I looked at Mozy and Carbonite, but I remember not liking the Mozy interface as much as Backblaze. I think both were $5 a moth each, I forget what Carbonite was. I think Carbonite had some sort of catch to it where I couldnt upload from an external disc or something, but its been so long I can't remember. I do believe the price should be about equal for all of them though, give or take.

I'll switch to backblaze since it does incremental and saves a lot of effort over time. It also seems to bandwidth throttle better apparently.
