deepak Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 No, I know of/became interested in the Schick by reputation alone. Also, it's one of the few current-production arms I think matches well aesthetically with the TD-124. What turntable/related equipment did you hear the Schick with, if you don't mind me asking. What cart are you planning to use?
Voltron Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Wow, congrats Al. I agree, the speakers look great. I didn't buy any of it. Just went to a demo with JP in NYC. Awesome stuff that haunts me a bit. If I could only find $100K lying around unattended...

Voltron Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 i think the confusion might be from this being the "Post the last thing you bought!" thread. Quote added for context, but the immediately preceding posts made it pretty clear. Under your bed, closet, tree out back? I knew you'd make a crack as soon as I hit send.

cetoole Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Quote added for context, but the immediately preceding posts made it pretty clear. I figured the preceding posts caused you to make an impulse purchase. Mayberry needs a bathroom rig, right?
Grahame Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 ^ Interesting looking speakers. WAF rated as "Challenging" I'd expect. Did you show the pic's to Claire, Al?
Voltron Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Actually, Grahame, I think Claire would love the look and told her about them but haven't shown them to her. She loves good wood.
Grahame Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Steve's influence must be rubbing off on you. ooh-err!

If I could only find $100K lying around unattended... Is it the speakers that cost so much? IIRC the OMA plinths are around $5000 if the user supplies the turntable mechanical parts.
tyrion Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 The mini's on his website, which are like monitors on a stand compared to these, are $12,000. I'm guessing these are $40,000 plus. They are limited to 30 pairs.
sschell Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 What cart are you planning to use? At the moment, a DL-103 - mostly because it's fairly inexpensive as MCs go and the fact that the Schick is purposely designed for heavy, low compliance carts.
Salt Peanuts Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Damn, those are some sexy speakers Al posted. If I ever win Powerball (that I don't play), I'm getting a pair.
Salt Peanuts Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Living Stereo 60 CD Collection Box WANT
GPH Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 They're not the SACDs though if that's what's you're looking for. Not sure how big the difference is between Living Stereo CDs and SACDs, I've looked for information and didn't find anything useful.
Salt Peanuts Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Don't have a SACD player anymore so that won't be an issue for me, unless the redbook layer of Living Stereo SACD releases are different (better) than the regular Living Stereo CDs.
GPH Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 From what I've read, the mastering shoud be different on the redbook layer of the SACDs, but they also sell at 10$ each. I have a dozen of the SACD hybrids, so I'll be able to compare them.
postjack Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 Living Stereo 60 CD Collection Box yeah I might have to make that happen. problem is I also want the new Slayer vinyl box.
Nebby Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 The discs in that 60disc set are SACD hybrids? I have maybe two or three out of that, so I'm thinking it might be a good starter/sampler set for me
luvdunhill Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) where is it imported from? Looks like Korea? I'll probably get one too. Edited October 7, 2010 by luvdunhill
Salt Peanuts Posted October 7, 2010 Report Posted October 7, 2010 (edited) where is it imported from? Looks like Korea? Japan. EDIT - It may very well be imported from Korea, though it was Japan-only release by Sony from what I've read. Edited October 7, 2010 by Salt Peanuts
