JBLoudG20 Posted July 24, 2007 Author Report Posted July 24, 2007 Guys, Looking for a killer output stage for my Denon 3930. must do I/V, filtering and amp/buffering. True Balanced output is a requirement. Any ideas? anyone want design one, and do a group buy SMD would be fine must fit into a CD/SACD player for modification zapfilter.
DigiPete Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 KG says its not a very good design... What would be better?
PFKMan23 Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 If I'm not mistaken, unless the Denon has 2 DAC chips (assuming that it uses a dual) or 4 single DAC chips, then basically anything would be pseudo/cheater balanced because you'd need something to do the phase inversion.
DigiPete Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 A new design by KG? Yup that's what we need! And then someone to make up an smd board and do a group buy

It has one Burr Brown 1796 (dual dac chip) per channel.

I'm gonna invert you if you don't sell me your NOS grins.
philodox Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 Otherwise I can't say that I recommend tube based output stages for sources. Given how tubes react to different impedance loads my preference is solid-state sources for flexibility and less worry.Hmmm, maybe a hybrid design?
tkam Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 Hmmm, maybe a hybrid design? perhaps transformer coupled like in my modded philips?
grawk Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 What I need is a kick ass mic preamp with a 5 pin subminiature binder connector for input, and a good 2496/2448 selectable output. The 5 pin is left, right, ground, +6.8v, +58v
philodox Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 Actually, now that I've actually read the page on the Opus... ...it looks like the output stage is on the DAC board anyways. So, I guess if I want to do a custom output stage I could just use a wm8740 evaluation board or something like that.
JBLoudG20 Posted July 24, 2007 Author Report Posted July 24, 2007 anyone want to team up and write a DAC in VHDL with me? I already wrote a 8 bit one, but that's clearly not going to cut it.
Dusty Chalk Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 I already wrote a 8 bit one, but that's clearly not going to cut it.It'll be fine if it's DXD.
DigiPete Posted July 26, 2007 Report Posted July 26, 2007 Mod my Denon 3930ci source. Probably going to put this http://www.borbelyaudio.com/allfetdac.asp output stage on it Kinda pricey, but looks killer, and KG told me to do it
JBLoudG20 Posted July 27, 2007 Author Report Posted July 27, 2007 Just finished soldering in 4000uf of capacitance to my tube amp. Hum is ALMOST gone with my 701. Its quiet enough that I don't care, because it would take a rebuild to fix it.
aerius Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 Just finished soldering in 4000uf of capacitance to my tube amp. Is that on the B+ or the low voltage filament heater supply?
KenW Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 Finally got the drywall and painting done in the private listening room and moved in tonight! Nothing fancy, but it's kinda nice to have a quiet, private place to call my own. Just moved in the seat and gear tonight along with the desktop/music server and some of my CD's. Figure I'll need some wall art and some nic nacs to make the place feel a bit more warm and homey.....and maybe a smaller plasma/LCD for gametime. Heck, as long as it's MY place, I could leave it just like that and be quite satisfied. Feels good....real good! Okay, it's not a high tech build like you DIY'ers are working on, but hey, I'm pretty happy.
KenW Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 pics now It's still quite sparse and well...not finished but it's all mine.....
grawk Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 fuck, i wish i had a room like that in my apartment! looks really nice, Ken. Your rent would double just for the space
postjack Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 very nice room Ken! my little listening area is totally cramped right now. I need to sell some shit. \
Dusty Chalk Posted July 27, 2007 Report Posted July 27, 2007 It's still quite sparse and well...not finished but it's all mine..... Very nicely done!
