grawk Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 i inquired about them, but i probably can't afford it...my thin skin has me looking at other headphones now that i've heard my k1k isn't good for metal I have a pair of balanced oracle cabled hd580s that are great for metal that I might consider selling
postjack Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 i inquired about them, but i probably can't afford it...my thin skin has me looking at other headphones now that i've heard my k1k isn't good for metal if I could humbly suggest the RS-1, flats, and some brutally powerful SS amplification.
fierce_freak Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 i think i prefer the k1k, though...i shouldn't listen to what other people say, but it still gets under my thin skin i've owned balanced 580's and several grado's (not RS-1 which I've only heard at a meet, though). I'd have to hear some stuff side by side again, but I think I prefer the k1k for metal to everything I've heard.
en480c4 Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 my thin skin has me looking at other headphones now that i've heard my k1k isn't good for metal How dare you trust your own ears and decied for yourself the K1Ks are fine for metal. Bow to the masses who probably never heard the K1Ks outside a loud meet room!!!

It's fine for pretty much all genres, though of course like any other headphone, it's stronger in some than in others. Metal is still very listenable on them, although the L3000s edge them out, but I have a hard time imagining that you would throw off the K1000s in disgust when you listen to metal on them, just as I have a hard time seeing people throwing off the L3000s in disgust when they listen to large orchestral music.

Bow to the masses who probably never heard the K1Ks outside a loud meet room!!! Exactly. RS-1 = rock and jazz only K1000 = classical only with no bass HD650 = sloppy slow tubby bass for classical only all other phones are only good for Reks to listen to game music.
fierce_freak Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 I have (metal and hardcore make up at least 60% of my music library, with the rest of it mostly filled with prog and rock other people would probably classify as metal, anyway). I love them with metal, but I bow to the masses and en480c4.
humanflyz Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 i'd be happy to throw your K1000s and L3000s off in disgust, humanflyz, if you let me keep them. LOL. Actually I haven't listened to my headphones at all since I got my speakers. It's a honeymoon phase for sure, but there is something more natural about speaker listening to me.
Dusty Chalk Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 RS-1 = rock and jazz only K1000 = classical only with no bass HD650 = sloppy slow tubby bass for classical onlyYou forgot: Denon W5000 = poor man's L3000
fierce_freak Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 D5000? I had the D2000 and it's been my favorite can I've owned barring the K1K.
Dusty Chalk Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 Uh...yeah...D5000...I got it confused for that other 5000...
philodox Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 LOL. Actually I haven't listened to my headphones at all since I got my speakers. It's a honeymoon phase for sure, but there is something more natural about speaker listening to me. BOOO! Send your headphones to meee!
kitaoji Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 BOOO! Send your headphones to meee! No, I want them and I'm closer
Nanoha Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 You forgot: Denon W5000 = poor man's L3000 VTG! JPN!
granodemostasa Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 well.. if you're not listening to those L3Ks.... i'd like to check out why 909 is always raving about it and the ZD comb btw... i didn't see speakers the last time i was at your place... what'd you get?
909 Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 i've only heard the l3000s w/ the zd on a few limited occasion. i do like both and both together, but raving is really pushing it. though, i've definitely raved about them apart.
deepak Posted September 9, 2007 Author Report Posted September 9, 2007 i inquired about them, but i probably can't afford it...my thin skin has me looking at other headphones now that i've heard my k1k isn't good for metal K1000 + Arcturus = win!
Elephas Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I'm listening to a W11JPN right now and it sounds very, very good. Using the Accuphase DP-500 > AT-HA5000, I think I prefer the W11JPN overall over the L3000, W5000, W2002 and AD2000. It loses in many areas to the others; details, bass quality, imaging, air, etc. But it sounds so natural.

Not refined, but smooth and musical with a good sense of PRaT.
postjack Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 I experienced fatigue with the W11JPN after long listening bouts. Having said that, it is a fine can, just not my cuppa'.
JBLoudG20 Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 You just seek out a VTG. Now. Go.
thrice Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 Well, just bought another pair of W100....now I'm looking for some L3000 drivers Dusty, your W3000 may have a little brother or sister soon....damnit, why did I sell those? I like the D5000, but it hasn'tbeen cutting lately. Not sure what it is about it, but I'm jonesing for the L3000 sound again.
JBLoudG20 Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 If you get the drivers, please let me know! I might want a pair of w100 drivers...
Dusty Chalk Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 ...damnit, why did I sell those? Dude, you wanna just borrow it for a while? It'll get you over the DT's.
hungrych Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Where on earth will you find l3000 drivers?
