johnwmclean Posted May 22, 2018 Report Posted May 22, 2018 Has anyone had any experience with these? https://www.vinshineaudio.com/denafrips
spritzer Posted May 22, 2018 Report Posted May 22, 2018 I have the Ares, it is excellent regardless of the price. 1
Rossliew Posted May 23, 2018 Report Posted May 23, 2018 Do you see any reason to consider the higher range models (Pontus, Venus, Terminator)?
spritzer Posted May 23, 2018 Report Posted May 23, 2018 I want to try some of them but I'm not going to pay retail. Been around the dac block a few too many times...

Rossliew Posted May 23, 2018 Report Posted May 23, 2018 Guess i need to check em out too. Need a balanced dac.

johnwmclean Posted May 24, 2018 Author Report Posted May 24, 2018 ^ The only thing thats terminating is the Yggy. 1 2
blubliss Posted May 24, 2018 Report Posted May 24, 2018 I did not like the Pontus compared to the Yggy.
Hopstretch Posted May 24, 2018 Report Posted May 24, 2018 Shut it. New FOTM > Old FOTM. It is the order of things. 1 5

luvdunhill Posted May 25, 2018 Report Posted May 25, 2018 Thankfully I have never been on this FOTM train. 1
atothex Posted May 25, 2018 Report Posted May 25, 2018 So we've decided these are the new FOTM as opposed to the Soekris or Holo things?
Rossliew Posted May 25, 2018 Report Posted May 25, 2018 Is comparing the yggy to the ares Apple to oranges?
JimL Posted May 25, 2018 Report Posted May 25, 2018 In terms of price, yes. The Pontus (cheaper) and Venus (more expensive) bracket the Yggy in price. The Terminator is almost double the Yggy's price.
Kerry Posted May 25, 2018 Report Posted May 25, 2018 There are certainly differences in the sound between the Yggy and the Ares, but I like them both. Don't know about the others.
Rossliew Posted May 26, 2018 Report Posted May 26, 2018 Thanks, Kerry. Would you say the Yggy has a robust power supply and thus offer greater dynamics and headroom as compared to the Ares?
Hopstretch Posted May 26, 2018 Report Posted May 26, 2018 He could say that, but it would be meaningless because there is never that clear an A --> B relationship in audio or, indeed, life -- however much we might wish it were so. 2
Kerry Posted May 26, 2018 Report Posted May 26, 2018 No. I think it's more a matter of different filters. I don't think the Yggy has more dynamics or headroom. In fact I think the Yggy is slightly more subdued. My only peeve with the Ares is that they don't isolate the USB so I needed to add something to isolate the power / ground. 2 minutes ago, Hopstretch said: He could say that, but it would be meaningless because there is never that clear an A --> B relationship in audio or, indeed, life -- however much we might wish it were so. Agreed. I've spent time with both and did some poor man's A/B listening. Nothing scientific. Like I said, I enjoy them both. 4
