Flyingsparks Posted June 5, 2018 Report Posted June 5, 2018 Cspirou, I would like the holes for any externally visible screws countersunk. How are you collecting that info, and do these small customizations impact the price? As you asked I'm providing my request, but I would assume this compicates the group buy a bit.
cspirou Posted June 5, 2018 Author Report Posted June 5, 2018 @Flyingsparks - since I am already doing this for Pars it should not be an issue. I haven't heard back on the quote yet but I already know that there is no difference between the Alpha and TKD versions
mypasswordis Posted June 5, 2018 Report Posted June 5, 2018 Not sure it's a good idea to countersink such thin panels (IIRC 0.09"?). I assume the panels have to be that thickness to fit the jacks?
cspirou Posted June 5, 2018 Author Report Posted June 5, 2018 The corners are already counter-sunk and it seems to work fine. Measured thickness is about 2.5mm or 0.1". 2
mypasswordis Posted June 5, 2018 Report Posted June 5, 2018 The panel is a lot more flexible in the middle than the corners, and the jacks are the only thing holding the PCB in place, which is pretty heavy with heatsinks. Just something to consider.
Pars Posted June 6, 2018 Report Posted June 6, 2018 Kerry countersunk his: johnwmclean countersunk all but the Neutrik jack holes. I'm ok with only the corners countersunk, or whatever. John's panels were 2.5mm thick. Not sure on Kerry's but they look about that as well. 1
mypasswordis Posted June 6, 2018 Report Posted June 6, 2018 Kerry's panel looks about twice as thick, see the one counterbored hole he didn't put the bolt in. Kerry, did you put a slot in on the other side for the PCB to fit through, or something? John's design looks good, too.
dsavitsk Posted June 6, 2018 Report Posted June 6, 2018 You can countersink 2mm thick panels, but you often need to use undercut screws. 3
cspirou Posted June 6, 2018 Author Report Posted June 6, 2018 Power LED indicator has been expanded to 3mm and I moved everything up by a couple mm to give more room under. Unless there's any glaring errors I consider this my final variation. If anyone still wants a case and hasn't ordered one, please contact me immediately. 1
Kerry Posted June 6, 2018 Report Posted June 6, 2018 That back plate is.1". I'm using low profile socket cap screws for that. 2
mypasswordis Posted June 6, 2018 Report Posted June 6, 2018 Wow that's really trippy. Looks thicker to me ? 1
cspirou Posted June 7, 2018 Author Report Posted June 7, 2018 (edited) Order was submitted last night. Now just wait 3-5 weeks. in the meantime I will be confirming addresses and getting packaging organized. There's a chance that the cases will be individually packaged already, which will make things easier. Edited June 7, 2018 by cspirou 4

Pars Posted July 9, 2018 Report Posted July 9, 2018 Any update on these?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
cspirou Posted July 9, 2018 Author Report Posted July 9, 2018 I haven't heard from him yet, but it has been 4 weeks so I'll checkup with him.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk He said it's going to be about 2 weeks and apologized for the delay. Also mentioned an issue with the fonts changing when he opens the files in his software so I'm helping him rectify that.
cspirou Posted July 10, 2018 Author Report Posted July 10, 2018 First post has been edited to include PDFs with vectorized versions of the fonts. When I applied the vectorization it seems to reduce the size, however when I zoomed in and did a side by side comparison they looked identical. Can anybody give the files a quick look to let me know of any issues? Then I'll send them ASAP.
cspirou Posted July 11, 2018 Author Report Posted July 11, 2018 (edited) It does seem to have that appearance. However when I do a side by side comparison with identical zoom, I see no differences. Even taking a partial screenshot of one and adding transparency to see what the difference is results in a perfect overlap. Edited July 11, 2018 by cspirou
Pars Posted July 11, 2018 Report Posted July 11, 2018 I had both zoomed in and tried to have them at the same sizing. I’m ok with the vectored font rendering; just liked the original better. What did you use to do the layouts? Are they accepting these as PDFs or are you giving them CAD files of some sort? Thanks!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
cspirou Posted July 11, 2018 Author Report Posted July 11, 2018 I use a vector program called Intaglio although I would have used Adobe Illustrator if I had it. I asked what format he wanted the drawings and he said he was fine with PDFs. I have a couple open source CAD programs but they are a bit cumbersome to use and ended up just being easier with Intaglio.
