Grahame Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 Lots of high drama and tension, but thats penalties for you.
Hopstretch Posted July 1, 2018 Author Report Posted July 1, 2018 And ... brutal for Denmark. Always a shame to see it go to penalties.
Torpedo Posted July 1, 2018 Report Posted July 1, 2018 It's what the game becomes in these competitions, no one wants to risk... Spain lost to their own insecurities and lack of speed A new cycle must begin. I'm happy for Croatia, I think they can play a lot better than they showed today.
TMoney Posted July 2, 2018 Report Posted July 2, 2018 I don't even pretend to understand the game of soccer, but damn if those weren't two wild games to watch today!
morphsci Posted July 2, 2018 Report Posted July 2, 2018 Yep Spain lost that game, Russia did not win it. The Denmark/Croatia game was intense. How many times do you see a team lose on PKs when their goalie saves two? That is just insane. I am really looking forward to the Croatia/Russia game, that should be, how do you say, interesting? 2
Hopstretch Posted July 2, 2018 Author Report Posted July 2, 2018 Predicting Brazil - Mexico is going to be a cracker tomorrow. 1
Grahame Posted July 2, 2018 Report Posted July 2, 2018 It ain’t over ‘til it’s over, indeed. Plenty of Drama and dashed dreams.
Hopstretch Posted July 2, 2018 Author Report Posted July 2, 2018 Brazil looked very strong. Tough one for Japan but Belgium have proved they have grit as well as (abundant) quality. I could see the winner of this quarterfinal going all the way.
TMoney Posted July 3, 2018 Report Posted July 3, 2018 (edited) Penalties seem like such a stupid way to resolve these things. It feels like ending a great NBA Finals with a 3-point contest or a great MLB World Series with a home run derby. Edited July 3, 2018 by TMoney
Hopstretch Posted July 3, 2018 Author Report Posted July 3, 2018 It appears the law of averages is still in operation and England can't lose every single penalty shootout. 2 1
padam Posted July 4, 2018 Report Posted July 4, 2018 They have improved both in taking and saving them. Still not there, but getting onto the finals is now a real possibility. The other arm looks quite brutal, any of those four teams look quite strong.
Hopstretch Posted July 4, 2018 Author Report Posted July 4, 2018 (edited) The England keeper Pickford did very well in the shootout but also kept them in it in extra time with a truly exceptional save. Kind of got lost because Colombia scored from the resulting corner. i0ml0.mp4 Doesn't look like it from behind but that was going right in the top corner. Edited July 4, 2018 by Hopstretch 2

Even though I'm not that interested in football (shock, horror), that save was bloody astonishing. Edited July 4, 2018 by Craig Sawyers
Torpedo Posted July 6, 2018 Report Posted July 6, 2018 Vive la France (so far). Fuck Suarez and all the bunch of theatrical pussies. 3
Torpedo Posted July 6, 2018 Report Posted July 6, 2018 (edited) WTF! This World Cup won't cease to surprise. You guys loved Belgium but IMHO it is a bunch of mediocre players with some luck. Weren't for Courtois and that damn clumsiness of Coutinho there'd still be an American team in the Cup this far. Belgium vs France is going to be way more than a football match Edited July 6, 2018 by Torpedo 1
morphsci Posted July 6, 2018 Report Posted July 6, 2018 Let’s see Hazard, de Bruyne, Lukaku, Kompany, Courtois, Vertonghen and my favorite Fellaini. That is a pretty fuckin’ good team, and they actually play like a team. They have shown the ability to win in many different scenarios in this tournament. The semifinal vs. France will be the final in my opinion.
Torpedo Posted July 7, 2018 Report Posted July 7, 2018 We'll see, Croatia is a very good team that should beat Russia and make the semis too. Whoever wins the Belgium-France would eventually make a wonderful final against Croatia, although you're probably right, the level of intensity and hopefully quality of the France vs Belgium will be hard to beat. I don't specially like Fellaini, but that's me and my personal taste for this game, I can understand people like him.
