Dusty Chalk Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 I am currently reading Kirkman's Walking Dead series. It's quite good, quite "human" -- reminds me a lot of Y: The Last Man, in a lot of ways (apocalyptic epic).
Dusty Chalk Posted May 7, 2007 Author Report Posted May 7, 2007 I also recently read Max Zombies and Marvel Zombies, both of which were excellent. I guess I'm just in a zombie mood. I also read the first TP of Clive Barker's Great and Secret Show -- good stuff. Anyone else reading any interesting stuff? Manga welcome here, too, but not to the exclusion of non-manga comics and graphic novels. Any recommendations? I wouldn't mind seeing The Diamond Age converted into a graphic novel mini-series.
KenW Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 It's been quite some time since my comic days. Stuff like Green Lantern, Iron Man, X-Men, Spidey, The Avengers, Fantastic 4, etc... Never did get into the zombie stuff for some reason. Heck, we didn't have that much of it way back then. Dem was Opie and Andy days so viewing was a wee bit more tame than it is today.

I'm not a comic reader, but I've read almost everything Barker has written. I was a huge fan of TGASS in high school, as well as its sequel, Everville. Honestly I can't even remember what they are about now though. And yeah, it was here that someone told me to read The Diamond Age! I remember bitching in another thread that I didn't like Snow Crash, but someone said it is different from Diamond Age. So I read Diamond Age, and WOW. Great book! So good its made me pick Snow Crash back up to give it another shot. I also have the three books of the Baroque cycle on my shelf for when I'm in the mood for something a bit different. Reading some M. John Harrison right now, but I've already derailed this thread enough. I do like zombie movies though.
Guest GlendaleViper Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Haven't been reading anything new lately, and there hasn't been anything to get me to change that. I'm still waiting for Warren Ellis to write something to rival Transmetropolitan. [EDIT] I did read the first chapters of Y... amazing story, simple and profound.

Stuff like Green Lantern, Iron Man, X-Men, Spidey, The Avengers, Fantastic 4, etc...You should flip through the first couple pages of Marvel Zombies (to see if it's for you) the next time you're in a book store -- all of those are featured in there. It's the funny.

In the forward, he mentions an abortion of an adaptation for Weaveworld, for some reason. And there was also the Tapping the Vein series. And yeah, it was here that someone told me to read The Diamond Age! Don't you think it'd make a great comic?
Guest GlendaleViper Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Holy CRAP has anyone read Black Gas??? Reading this thread got me searching for zombie comics and sure enough, I get a 3 book miniseries by none other than Warren Ellis! Any comments on this one?
postjack Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Don't you think it'd make a great comic? Can't say, I really haven't read a comic since grade school. Though I admit I've been intrigued by Gaiman's [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Absolute-Sandman-Vol-1/dp/1401210821/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-0918350-2474444?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1178573953&sr=8-1]Absolute Sandman[/ame]. I love Gaiman's books, and the Absolute looks like it would be a beautiful tome for the coffee or bookseller's table.
philodox Posted May 8, 2007 Report Posted May 8, 2007 I've also been thinking about picking up some of Gaimans comics... wouldn't mind getting the hardcover 300 as well.

I've only read the entire Sandman once, but it still ranks as my single most favourite graphic novel series.
GPH Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 I've been rediscovering old comics lately through the magic of torrents. It's pretty awesome that you can get out-of-print and rare releases in a few clicks. I also found an very cool comic reader for Mac, it's called Simple Comic. Reading the original Sandman right now.
laxx Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 I've been reading comics, but on Windows, so I use CDisplay.
