Voltron Posted December 26, 2020 Report Posted December 26, 2020 I inherited a Yamaha receiver with that exact tuner from my brother and used it at my college dorm and beyond.I may have had that tape deck, but I destroyed a lot of brain cells in that era (not so different now, I know). 3 3
Knuckledragger Posted December 28, 2020 Report Posted December 28, 2020 A guy on /r/audiophile said his father passed recently. This was his rig: Not too shabby a view, either. 2
ironbut Posted January 3, 2021 Report Posted January 3, 2021 This guy has the same era/model Aries that I have. From this picture at least, he's done the same thing I have and discarded the extra pulley weight/flywheel on the motor and the record weight/clamp. I find the sound is more open and lively without a clamp. It's possible that the frequency graphs are a little flatter (fewer high mid spikes?) but my main speaker system is for pure pleasure and accuracy be damned. Plus, my Home Studio rig is the one that needs to be flat. 4
swt61 Posted January 4, 2021 Report Posted January 4, 2021 Can't agree more Steve. I chased accuracy and a flat response for many years, only to get very close and realize that I did not enjoy the system much at all. Flavor is just fine if it's the right flavor. 3
Long Way Around Posted January 5, 2021 Report Posted January 5, 2021 On 5/17/2020 at 9:19 PM, Torpedo said: The lovely cassette deck I mentioned above. TBH it wasn't as good sounding as the looks would suggest. Still I recorded a ton of vinyls into cassettes with that machine. I recently picked up its lower grade sibling, nicely restored, from a local dealer and fixer, to add a tape deck to my system. I did buy it more for its looks than its sound... but who can blame me for that? 3
Voltron Posted January 19, 2021 Report Posted January 19, 2021 The audio cassette table is pretty cute 2
swt61 Posted January 19, 2021 Report Posted January 19, 2021 I feel like the area behind the system is too live. I would work on deadening that space. Maybe 6 or 7 dozen more kitty's?
