postjack Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 I can't stop laughing... this is the silliest amp I have ever seen.
Dusty Chalk Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 So is that the power supply? That is silly -- power supply 3x the size of the amp itself. But silly in a good way. I want one. 's'cute.
thrice Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 The other thread at Head-Fi said it would be in the $949 range.
kevin gilmore Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 Now if we can just get those old high voltage mercury batteries, then the thing truely would be portable...
KenW Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 The other thread at Head-Fi said it would be in the $949 range. GULP! Okay, it's all about the guts and performance so to hell with the price. Anyone got specs on this little mighty might? Think Mikhail would do a custom length on the umbilical?
granodemostasa Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 950??? they must be pulling your strings . i"ll ask Mikhail today. I couldn't think why a small transportable amp would be made to cost that much, especially when it competes in size (with PS) with the mpx.
philodox Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 As I said at head-fi... I just don't get it.
n_maher Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 As I said at head-fi... I just don't get it. I'm with you. Until he's got at least a similarly sized power supply to go with it (battery or otherwise) I don't quite understand it's purpose. I'll hold further comment till after the official details are announced but it would seem to me a very hard sell at near $1000.
thrice Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 I think it was $949 for the one in the pic...with the crazy PS. Apparently there's a less expensive PS in the works.....but yeah at that price if it doesn't outperform a PPX then why bother?
kevin gilmore Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 time for a flyback line switcher i think
ojnihs Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 but yeah at that price if it doesn't outperform a PPX then why bother? I was thinking the exact same thing
aerius Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 As I said at head-fi... I just don't get it. Because it's small and it's cute, and HOLY SHIT IT PLUGS INTO AN IPOD!!!!!
NotoriousBIG_PJ Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 Because it's small and it's cute, and HOLY SHIT IT PLUGS INTO AN IPOD!!!!! Dude, if it comes with a matching ALO dock I am fucking in! Biggie.
postjack Posted April 21, 2007 Author Report Posted April 21, 2007 Dude, if it comes with a matching ALO dock I am fucking in! I'm only in if it also includes the free hat. If you look up "sweetness" in the newest version of Websters, it just shows this hat now.
NotoriousBIG_PJ Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 I'm only in if it also includes the free hat. If you look up "sweetness" in the newest version of Websters, it just shows this hat now. Lol PostJack, you inspired me to enter a new entry into UrbanDictionary.com: Sweetness Definition: What noobs over at the head-fi forum call ALO Cammo Hats. As these nubs become more experienced with the forum, they come to realize that their cammo hat is not in fact sweetness, but actually incredibly lame. Some of the worse off head-fiers get beaten up at school over their ALO hat after being asked by their classmates what ALO is, leading to the kid mistakenly pulling out his $150+ ALO wire (worth $10 in parts) and totally alienating all of his friends. Note that there are no real girls on head-fi, so only teenage boys are at risk. Example: Dude, my new ALO hat is total sweetness. Biggie.
hungrych Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 It's practically as big as a ppx3 and you have to plug it in. WTF is the point? I wish he would finish his current orders before unveiling new stuff.... -.-
aerius Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 It's practically as big as a ppx3 and you have to plug it in. WTF is the point? BUT IT PLUGS INTO IPOD!!!
Iron_Dreamer Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 I saw this yesterday but didn't have a chance to listen to it. The pot, as with the ones in his new "squarewave" amps is rather rough. Also the unit runs extremely hot, to the point of feeling pain when touching it only for the briefest interval possible. It has to be over 70 degrees celsius.
kevin gilmore Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 One of the biggest and emerging problems is the head-fi international meet. Vendors are now virtually required to have new products at this show and are now driven by this yearly thing. So instead of coming out with rational new products when they are ready, many things are hurried along, sometimes putting current customers on the slow track so that more time can be spent coming up with new product that may or may not make any kind of financial sense...

humanflyz Posted April 22, 2007 Report Posted April 22, 2007 And thus Head-Fi becomes even more commercialized
