NotoriousBIG_PJ Posted April 19, 2016 Report Posted April 19, 2016 Has anyone tried these out? I think I'm going to order a pair, expensive though! Claims more refined highs and tighter bass. Hopefully they don't crumble in 2 years like other grado pads heh. http://www.ttvjaudio.com/TTVJ_Deluxe_Flat_Pads_p/ttvj000999.htm Biggie. 1
Torpedo Posted April 19, 2016 Report Posted April 19, 2016 I find them a bit too expensive for a couple of rubber rings 1
swt61 Posted April 19, 2016 Report Posted April 19, 2016 He's not a cheap bastard. After all he custom ordered a beautiful Ebony, Bloodwood and Maple stand from yours truly. 1
NotoriousBIG_PJ Posted April 20, 2016 Author Report Posted April 20, 2016 Well I ordered a pair. I'll take pics of them side by side. Not expecting much, but its fun to try new things. Biggie.
Torpedo Posted April 20, 2016 Report Posted April 20, 2016 I'd like to see the pics and read your comments, if they're worth it I would get them for my HP2
HiWire Posted April 20, 2016 Report Posted April 20, 2016 (edited) Wow, they are pricey. Hope they're worth it. At least shipping is free. Edited April 20, 2016 by HiWire
Sherwood Posted April 20, 2016 Report Posted April 20, 2016 Look like a good fit for the HP1. Will report back with problems.
MexicanDragon Posted April 20, 2016 Report Posted April 20, 2016 As DQ pointed out to me, the 15$ difference shrinks to 7.70$ when the cheapest shipping is added in. I'm 95% sure they used the exact same picture for both pads as well, so I'm rather curious myself. Where is @screaming oranges to buy a few pairs when you need him? **BRENT**
Voltron Posted April 20, 2016 Report Posted April 20, 2016 You mean the Dairy Queen is a real person who advises you on consumer matters? 1
MexicanDragon Posted April 20, 2016 Report Posted April 20, 2016 We don't have Carvel here, so we make do. **BRENT**

While I think flats are pricey, anyone already planning to pick up a replacement soon wouldn't be spending that much more in grabbing one of these. I'll stick with my cheap-bastard HD414 pads while they are still about $10 apiece. Even if you need to buy a knife to cut the holes, you're still saving a bunch of dosh. 9 hours ago, Voltron said: You mean the Dairy Queen is a real person who advises you on consumer matters? NotoriousBIG_PJ Posted April 22, 2016 Author Report Posted April 22, 2016 First impressions, they look and feel exactly like the regular pads. No obvious sonic differences noted. I sent TTVJ an email asking if there was anyway to identify them versus the regular pads. I was hoping they would be made out of different materials, but it appears not. I'll take some daytime pics tomorrow. Biggie.
grawk Posted April 22, 2016 Report Posted April 22, 2016 I wonder if the new ones are less likely to turn into powder over time? 2
HiWire Posted April 22, 2016 Report Posted April 22, 2016 I was warming up my ears for refined highs and dat bass.
NotoriousBIG_PJ Posted April 23, 2016 Author Report Posted April 23, 2016 I asked TTVJ if there was anyway of visually differentiating them from regular flat pads and Todd told me they are the same material as the regular flat pads, but have been treated with something. I imagine they will crumble just as fast doh. Biggie.
NotoriousBIG_PJ Posted April 24, 2016 Author Report Posted April 24, 2016 I spent more time with these and I find they open up the top end a bit, which on the rs-1 is a bad thing and I start getting ear fatigue after about 20 minutes of use. I prefer the regular flat pads. Biggie.
HiWire Posted April 25, 2016 Report Posted April 25, 2016 I remember Joe Grado had some new version of his pads... perhaps this new treatment is similar. Maybe they don't absorb sonic energy as much as the regular flat pad material.

HiWire Posted November 7, 2016 Report Posted November 7, 2016 Any updated impressions on these pads? The flat pads on my HP2 are crumbling a bit.

Dusty Chalk Posted November 7, 2016 Report Posted November 7, 2016 It's probably some airborn rubber virus. HiWire -- you know you can get the Senn pads for it, right?

HiWire -- you know you can get the Senn pads for it, right? You have to mod the 414 pads, and I've double blinded it: they don't sound as good as the flats. 30 percent of listeners declare them as sounding worse than flats, as opposed to 10 percent the other way. With 10 people, the p-value is okie dokie. This was done with HP-2 headphones, but I think it's valid for other Grado phone. Edited November 7, 2016 by EdipisReks1 1
