luvdunhill
Started with this then made it look like this then decided to play with chemicals Ā then made it look like this Ā via a probably Doug approved implement called a card scraper, then put the first coat on!Ā Ā Ā probably will do another coat, might sand between coats? I am not sure what is recommended with this Osmo stuffā¦ But; it looks ok! -Ā I found out that if you get bubbles in the epoxy itās doesnāt quiteĀ work to just put another layer on top. Also the really shallow flaws didnāt hold the epoxy well. I kinda wanted a contrasting jet black color in the various cracks and crannies and it looks pretty decent! There were some knotholes that went all the way through the plankĀ and those took the epoxy really well. Ā
Voltron
Nice! Steve and I used a torch to draw up the air bubbles in the epoxy and that works well.Ā I really didn't like Osmo but it looks good there. I bought this Woodpeckers Super FenceĀ monthsĀ ago, received the package weeks ago, opened it finally last week to find out they sent only a single piece of Super Track by mistake. They sent me the actual fence and I got to keep the super track for my trouble. Anyway, this went together very easily, and now I have to set up another router to rout my router table. This veryĀ meta effortĀ will create channels forĀ the tracks to hold the Super Fence.Ā Ā

I love card scrapers. Different brands have different hardnesses, and work better for different applications. I have both Veritas and Lie Nielsen. The veritas are a little harder and hold an edge better, the LN are a little softer and a little gentler and seem less likely to tear out across the grain. Both are super useful. And cheap. Also, Crucible for avoiding sharp corners. Edited May 21, 2021 by dsavitsk

I tried the heat gun in the picture but the issue was the bubbles were inside the fill and the heat gun made the epoxy look scorched. Oh well, only one fill in the end had bubbles. When I tried to put another layer on top, it didnāt bind well. And when I scraped it, the entire second coat came offā¦ Ā This was the TopOil which is a lot thinner thanĀ the Polyx. Itās a very odd substance,Ā itĀ is very hydrophobicĀ - very hard to get off your hands with water. I also in testing found the directions on the can didnāt work as well. I ended up applying the first coat pretty thick with a synthetic pad. In my tests that worked better than the usual thin rubbed on coat. I havenāt been back to check on it but hopefully will get to it later this week. Edited May 23, 2021 by luvdunhill
