swt61 Posted October 29, 2020 Report Posted October 29, 2020 It's the best fence on the market, by no small margin.
Emooze Posted November 6, 2020 Report Posted November 6, 2020 I got the J Tech Photonics laser upgrade for the Shapeoko. Started installing it today, hope to do some test runs this weekend.

When I started looking at laser attachments for the Shapeoko I decided the only laser I'd ever let myself near was one in a fully rated enclosure with idiot (me) proof controls. I'd suggest making a pre-burn checklist that you rigorously follow. 2 2
Emooze Posted November 7, 2020 Report Posted November 7, 2020 Agreed, coming from a lot of work-related laser work, there's a personal arm/de-arm sequence and there will be an enclosure before anyone else is even in the garage with me. I trust myself, but no one else. Also need an enclosure for fumes anyways. 2

Emooze Posted November 7, 2020 Report Posted November 7, 2020 The thing I have learned working with a lasers is you need to treat it like a weapon: is it loaded/plugged in, is it safed/armed, is it pointed at the thing I am going to shoot and not at the things I do not want to shoot, am I wearing the safety gear, is everyone else safe or with gear on, do I know what I am doing? Only then, do you press the button. Shitty day out here, trying to motivate myself to head out to the garage and put my words into actions. 3
swt61 Posted November 7, 2020 Report Posted November 7, 2020 Today is NOT a shitty day anywhere in the country. 4
Emooze Posted November 7, 2020 Report Posted November 7, 2020 (edited) Truth, it is not. However, it is raining and real cold. The weather does not agree with the great news. Edited November 7, 2020 by Emooze
Hopstretch Posted November 8, 2020 Report Posted November 8, 2020 Truth, it is not. However, it is raining and real cold. The weather does not agree with the great news.Yeah I got wet driving down through Paso Robles this morning and the wind off the ocean has some bite in Carp this evening. I did wave when passing the exit for 135! 4
Emooze Posted November 9, 2020 Report Posted November 9, 2020 It's been a nasty weekend, weather-wise. Perfect for staying in and doing stupid things with lasers. I needed an image to test out dithering and came up with this: 5 2 4
Voltron Posted November 9, 2020 Report Posted November 9, 2020 Are those freshly plucked eyelids in his paws? 1
chinsettawong Posted November 9, 2020 Report Posted November 9, 2020 Went over to a friend’s house and made a pair of field coil loudspeakers over the weekend. They sound surprisingly nice! 15
naamanf Posted November 9, 2020 Report Posted November 9, 2020 Workout space started. Need to get my soldering arm back in shape. 7
swt61 Posted November 9, 2020 Report Posted November 9, 2020 I've never seen one without coat hangers. BTW, I pick the grey swatch on the left. Gay designer fee waved. 1 5

dsavitsk Posted November 11, 2020 Report Posted November 11, 2020 Not sure where to put this, so I'll put it here: Does anyone have any single ended output transformers laying around that they would be willing to lend me for some testing? Specs don't matter much. Primary can be anything from 3K5 to 15K, any secondary appropriate for speakers (4 to 16) is fine. I'll clip lead them in, test them for a bit, and then send them back.

swt61 Posted November 11, 2020 Report Posted November 11, 2020 (edited) Very cool. I assume this is for your RAAL amp experiment? Edited November 11, 2020 by swt61
