Saw G-Man's post a minute after my brother emailed an article about how the the 400% rise in lumber prices is putting a damper on surging home building in the Bay Area. If only Stretch had some flat land available on the Rancho...

Does that mean he gets two pensions?

Also, did you take that picture with your drone?

Two different people.

No, but I had to hold the phone over my head. Those are 20”x15”

Speaking of wood. What would you recommend for treating teak patio furniture.  Cleaning and oiling our teak furniture is becoming an annual chore. The only product they stock anywhere in town is Watco Teak finish and I really don't care for the results.

via a probably Doug approved implement called a card scraper, then put the first coat on!

probably will do another coat, might sand between coats? I am not sure what is recommended with this Osmo stuff…

But; it looks ok! - I found out that if you get bubbles in the epoxy it’s doesn’t quite work to just put another layer on top. Also the really shallow flaws didn’t hold the epoxy well. I kinda wanted a contrasting jet black color in the various cracks and crannies and it looks pretty decent! There were some knotholes that went all the way through the plank and those took the epoxy really well.

Nice! Steve and I used a torch to draw up the air bubbles in the epoxy and that works well. I really didn't like Osmo but it looks good there.

I bought this Woodpeckers Super Fence months ago, received the package weeks ago, opened it finally last week to find out they sent only a single piece of Super Track by mistake. They sent me the actual fence and I got to keep the super track for my trouble. Anyway, this went together very easily, and now I have to set up another router to rout my router table. This very meta effort will create channels for the tracks to hold the Super Fence.

I love card scrapers. Different brands have different hardnesses, and work better for different applications. I have both Veritas and Lie Nielsen. The veritas are a little harder and hold an edge better, the LN are a little softer and a little gentler and seem less likely to tear out across the grain. Both are super useful. And cheap. Also, Crucible for avoiding sharp corners.

Looks like y’all got some fun projects going.

Before I could do anything else I need some HVAC in the shop since it’s getting hot and humid. Put this 26,000 BTU Mr Cool in yesterday/today. Pretty darn easy DIY install. So far it’s cooling great.

I tried the heat gun in the picture but the issue was the bubbles were inside the fill and the heat gun made the epoxy look scorched. Oh well, only one fill in the end had bubbles. When I tried to put another layer on top, it didn’t bind well. And when I scraped it, the entire second coat came off…

This was the TopOil which is a lot thinner than the Polyx. It’s a very odd substance, it is very hydrophobic - very hard to get off your hands with water. I also in testing found the directions on the can didn’t work as well. I ended up applying the first coat pretty thick with a synthetic pad. In my tests that worked better than the usual thin rubbed on coat. I haven’t been back to check on it but hopefully will get to it later this week.
