shellylh Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 Thinking about getting an upright vacuum to use on the carpets. Right now I have a canister vacuum (cheapest Miele) and it is a real pain to use (I hate pulling around the canister... it keeps getting stuck. Also the vacuum has a very small head and it is really meant for hardwood floor/rugs). I was thinking of getting the Miele Jazz but I then reading up on vacuums, Sebo vacuums seem to be better. Anyone used a Sebo vacuum before? Where would I buy one? Needs to have: HEPA filter, uses bags (not bagless) and it would be nice if it were easy to find the bags locally, upright, lots of suction.
Mister X Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 http://simplicityvac.com/freedom-standard We have a Simplicity freedom vac... Very light weight, practically drives itself and has a very long cord but the bags are rather expensive and hard to find locally. 1

shellylh Posted March 13, 2016 Author Report Posted March 13, 2016 Actually maybe I should get a Roomba. Any experience with these type of robot vacuums?
kevin gilmore Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 Roomba is an expensive toy. And then it breaks. Then the battery dies. Rinse and repeat. Very bad waste of $450. My dogs also don't like it. 3
sorenb Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 chihuahua's bark at just about anything I guess
Dusty Chalk Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 I <3 bagless, not sure why you would want bags, so I thought I'd ask -- why not bagless?
shellylh Posted March 13, 2016 Author Report Posted March 13, 2016 Bags are better for allergies and easier than cleaning out the bagless vacuums (at least the Miele bags are very easy to change). 2 hours ago, grawk said: I'd get a cleaning service I have a person that comes every once in a while but can't have her come every week (she used to come every week when we had a house). I need to call her up again - it's been a few weeks.
Dusty Chalk Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 Can't argue with easier, I usually need to vacuum after I change out a bagless. But I'm alright with that -- I like to see when I need to clean it, and slightly more green (slightly). Didn't realize that about allergies though, maybe I need to reconsider going back to bagged.
Grand Enigma Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 We have a Miele Dynamic something upright and canister vacuum. We have been happy with both.

Craig Sawyers Posted March 14, 2016 Report Posted March 14, 2016 Ours is a SEBO upright. Just keeps going - maybe ten years or more - and never missed a beat. Two filters, one of which I rinse out with soapy water maybe twice a year, and the other I take outdoors and beat the dust out. And the bag of course - everything that goes in stays in. 1

We have this, but having kids requires much more than the once a week cleaning... I think we vacuum about 6 times a day most days cleaning up after them. My 2yr old will even go get the vacuum after dropping something and say "oh no! a mess! clean!" 1

Like the grotesque Mrs Gamp in Dickens' Martin Chuzzlewit. An alcoholic and abusive nurse/midwife/undertaker who kept gin in her teapot, and was permanently sozzled. "Mrs Gamp stored all her household matters in a little cupboard by the fire-place; beginning below the surface (as in nature) with the coals, and mounting gradually upwards to the spirits, which, from motives of delicacy, she kept in a teapot" 2
