Serendib Posted September 29, 2015 Report Posted September 29, 2015 Hi,I am interested in the best electrostatic amp for jazz (instrumentals and vocals) with the Stax 009. Any thoughts or reccs?
purk Posted September 29, 2015 Report Posted September 29, 2015 Headroom Total Air Head! Anyway, please read your welcomed PM, but check these amps out. Any will be great with the SR009; however I do recommend the full-sized KGSSHV.http://107.170.184.179/products/
DouglasQuaid Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 Have you tried the new Beats electrostat amp? It really is revolutionizing the industry.
mikeymad Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 ES1 - specifically mine - as long as you don't mind rebuilding it from scratch... 1
luvdunhill Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 ES1 - specifically mine - as long as you don't mind rebuilding it from scratch... Do you pay in scotch?
Voltron Posted October 2, 2015 Report Posted October 2, 2015 I don't think the seller is supposed to pay. Where are you from?
Dusty Chalk Posted October 2, 2015 Report Posted October 2, 2015 (edited) He's talking about just rebuilding it.Well, also, it's a Singlepower. Edited October 2, 2015 by Dusty Chalk 1
Serendib Posted October 2, 2015 Author Report Posted October 2, 2015 Thanks for your different replies, which are interesting. I was specifically looking for a high performance amp that would bring out the best (tradeoffs considered as nothing is perfect) in all types of classic jazz and vocals. There are quite a few good amps out there with different slants. I have decided to try the KGSHH Carbon with the 009 (keeping future headphones in mind).

I know I love mine. it arrived today, courtesy of excellent Birgir service, and while i have only been able to play it with my new SR-009 for a few hours, it sounds wonderful. One of the things i played today is the DSD Getz/Gilberto, and it is sweet. 3
DefQon Posted October 20, 2015 Report Posted October 20, 2015 How is the Lumin music server doing for you and the combo?
Pale Rider Posted October 20, 2015 Report Posted October 20, 2015 How is the Lumin music server doing for you and the combo?I've been pretty pleased with the Lumin ever since I got it. I've had it for about 2.5 years, and at the time I got it, it was a step up in smoothness, dynamics, and detail over the PS Audio PerfectWave DAC I had at the time. It was also a much more robust network player, and its software controller was more reliable than most of the UPnP player-controllers. Lumin has also consistently provided software and firmware updates for its player. When i upgraded my PWD to a DirectStream, I moved the Lumin over to become the player for my primary headphone rig. It will be interesting to see how the NADAC compares to it. With respect to the headphones, swapping the KGSSHV Carbon/SR-009 in for the Decware Taboo3/LCD-2 was night and day.
purk Posted October 20, 2015 Report Posted October 20, 2015 The SR009 is a breath of fresh air compared to the LCD-2.
Pale Rider Posted October 20, 2015 Report Posted October 20, 2015 The SR009 is a breath of fresh air compared to the LCD-2.Yes indeed. One track after another.
DefQon Posted October 22, 2015 Report Posted October 22, 2015 Completely polar opposite sounding though. If I had an 009 I would have an LCD-3F as well.
Pale Rider Posted October 22, 2015 Report Posted October 22, 2015 Completely polar opposite sounding though. If I had an 009 I would have an LCD-3F as well. Well, yes, and i am not getting rid of my 2, and I have a 4 on order to try it out.
DefQon Posted October 22, 2015 Report Posted October 22, 2015 I really hope the 4 is worth 4k. Seems Audeze needs to get there heads out there arses with the miniscule change with a big price tag. Seems they are competing with the Hifiman HE1k price wise. We don`t need a second JPS labs.Sent from my LG-D855 using Tapatalk

grawk Posted October 22, 2015 Report Posted October 22, 2015 why would they change their pricing strategy if it works? As long as people buying again for incremental changes, manufacturers will keep doing it. 2
wink Posted October 23, 2015 Report Posted October 23, 2015 Yep, if people didn't buy the stuff for retail, it would drop until it found it's level in the market place. ergo- Sennheiser HD700.But whilst perception is reality, you get this kind of opportunistic behavior. Can't blame them though if the rubes buy the stuff at the current price..
Dusty Chalk Posted October 23, 2015 Report Posted October 23, 2015 why would they change their pricing strategy if it works? As long as people buying again for incremental changes, manufacturers will keep doing it. You make them sound so simple.
