Only the left channel then? :P

The reason I put " part build " John is because my local engineer will ( hopefully ) be doing the chassis work, obviously you'll be doing the biggest part of this build which I appreciate very much. ?

Great choice for going with John.  His builds are unique and always first class.  Gotta love his custom chassis!

If everything works out, then John will be in liaise with my local metal engineer. The only thing that could be a problem is this engineer who's name is also Dave, runs his business alone, and it doesn't look like he has a website, but the next time I see him I'll ask if he has as email address.

Is there a big difference between Carbon v5 and v6? I have v5`s from earlier GB.

Dave R: you probably know this, but Modushop/HiFi2000 does custom work as well..

Thank`s

3 mm less depth and two extra holes, apart from that none.
Kevin released a V6 with ground plane, which the previous Carbons didn't have.

I wasn't aware of that place, but I'll be using my local metal engineer ( assuming he'll want the job ) in liaise with John.

I also had an idea on how I'd like the faceplate to look with the controls positioned in a certain way, but John sent me a computer drawing of a faceplate with a slightly different controls position that I prefer to the one I did. So by the time John and I have worked out how this Carbon will look, it'll be very much to my liking.

Now John did ask me why I wanted the Carbon so big, 17"W x 7"H x 14"D approx, but after I showed him the shelf on my audio rack where it'd be going,  he understood why, I also mentioned to John that the width of my Bybee power purifier is also 17". ?

Interesting. Had a look at Byebe Tech's homepage. Are you planning on using some Quantum Slipstream Purifiers for the Carbon build?

Maybe ?

Any significant changes on the v6 BOM from v5?

No, except for the 120R tail resistors (182R on V5 board) of the offset trim pot John pointed out. Although I believe I made this update in the V5 BOM in the previous GB already.

The 120R provides greater adjustment range that allows for 20mA output device current.

After advice from John, the size of the Carbon he'll eventually be doing for me will be 17"W x 6"H x 14"D.

quite surprising! are you sure John didn't advice on 17"W x 6.5"H x 10.5"D ?

Thanks! Could not find them anywhere. I am going to start my build soon and is hard to do it without them :)

I have a question regarding the LED on Carbon amp board. I scanned through the posts and 1.7V Red LED is recommended. But I would like to extend the LED to the panel to indicate 4 rails therefore I want to pick white/blue LED instead of red. However, I checked all Blue/White LED sold in Mouser, all of them are with forward voltage 3V above. In this case,

1.

the led's drive the current sources. red only, and do not extend for any reason.

Thanks Kevin. In this case, Can I make use of the output of the GRLV (+15/-15V) to power up two LED for front panel indication?

you could, but why would you need two? What would that tell you?

One for positive and one for negative rail...is this weird? I am drawing CAD and going to submit it to Hifi2000 for case customization.

But there are 4 power supplies, 5 counting the bias.

What you want is a series of detectors that detect + 15 volts +/-.25 volts, -15 volts +/-.25 volts, +400 or +450 +/-10 volts, and -400 or -450 +/-10V

that all requires an extra board with comparators, voltage references and a number of other parts.

My original plan was to indicate R+, R-, L+, L- on the amp board instead of the power. As the LED on amp boards drive the current, so I just change to simply indicate power on/off only by using GRLV voltage output.

But all that tells you is there are some volts going through the two LEDs for 2 out of the 4 power supplies. It just sounds like make-work for no purpose - like this:
