blessingx Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 Anyone else watching this HBO mini-series? Was nervous with Simon and Haggis working together, but it's turned out pretty well so far. 1
jpelg Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 Started watching the first ep, got bored, changed the channel. I do like Isaac as an actor though. *shrug*
Mister X Posted August 25, 2015 Report Posted August 25, 2015 Same here. Got bored watching the first episode, changed the channel and have not watched any of the other episodes.
bozebuttons Posted August 25, 2015 Report Posted August 25, 2015 I have watched the first 4 episodes they get better,I was a little bored with the first one as well.looking forward to 5&6 next sunday.
blessingx Posted August 25, 2015 Author Report Posted August 25, 2015 The first episode certainly focused on introductions. Story came into focus by the second. Watched the first again with another and it was interesting how much happens in the background that shows up quickly after.
ironbut Posted September 2, 2015 Report Posted September 2, 2015 I digging this so far.Feels a little like Treme' which I loved. 1
blessingx Posted September 2, 2015 Author Report Posted September 2, 2015 (edited) Just finished. Quite a bit to like. Don't believe I've ever seen politics handled this way. Edited September 2, 2015 by blessingx
ironbut Posted September 4, 2015 Report Posted September 4, 2015 I've thought a lot about this show since I finished.Maybe it's because I was involved in various protest movements in the 70's or having lived in upper state NY and known guys who were pushing their way into local politics there (always wondered whey smart folks would do that to themselves). Is it me, or were things much more black and white back then? I tend to think it's part of getting older and realizing that the guys I thought were genuine "bad guys" (like the character played by Alfred Molina) are just displaying the wrong flaws and are on the other side of the debate from me.Or maybe it was the way middle class guys were raised to think that they are all destined for some sort of greatness, to somehow stand above the crowd and be recognized for their achievements.Or is it simply that we were innocent enough to believe that life was fair and having a "good heart" is enough to carry you.Sorry for the dribble but I love it when a show makes me stop and think a little. 1
TMoney Posted September 25, 2015 Report Posted September 25, 2015 So is the verdict on this that its worth a watch? It is probably the next show I'm thinking of diving in to.
ironbut Posted September 25, 2015 Report Posted September 25, 2015 I really enjoyed it. Being based on a true story, shouldn't make a difference but it did for me.Well crafted and moving IMHO.
TMoney Posted September 28, 2015 Report Posted September 28, 2015 (edited) Finished it in three days. Fantastic! What a touching story. Who is the "hero" though?Take my opinion on this one with a grain of salt as 1) I'm an attorney who 2) spends lots of time in council meetings, and 3) my firm participates in financings for low-income multi-family housing projects. blessingx Posted September 28, 2015 Author Report Posted September 28, 2015 The title doesn't necessarily imply thereis one, though my votes go for Judge Sand, Oscar Newman and Mary Dorman. 1
