crappyjones123 Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 (edited) So Julie was trying to purchase a book for one of the girls earlier today. She went to Amazon.com and was greeted with the login screen, not the usual amazon home page. She logged in and then the screen prompted her for her billing address to be updated. She entered that as well and then stopped at the following screen when the website asked for her credit card number and ssn. I came over and tried the same on my phone and macbook air. Same thing. I tried connecting to another wifi network and regular amazon website access. Same with the phone on LTE. Would reseting the wireless router kick out whoever might be causing this nonsense or should I just be changing the wireless router entirely. It is quite a few years old. If the router does need to be changed, is there anything in the range of a refurbished Airport Express that would suit their regular internet browsing habits. Nothing beyond Netflix, school stuff and email. No home networking etc. I looked and the airport express was released a few years ago as well. Is it still a viable option? PS. I changed both the wifi and the router password and still am getting the same issue. Edited June 25, 2015 by crappyjones123
shellylh Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 I don't know if this will help but did you do a hard reset of your router?
jvlgato Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 Yeah, sounds like you're being transferred to a rogue site to capture your/her cc info. Hope you didn't enter that! What Jacob said. Also would look into how to update its firmware.
crappyjones123 Posted June 25, 2015 Author Report Posted June 25, 2015 Fucking fuck. I unplugged the router a while ago but had a feeling that a hacked router would be the only thing that explains the behavior. And yes, I forgot the 'had' in there. Ordering a refurbished Airport Express right now. Wish they had them at the store...The wiping of the laptops is not terribly bad as they are both on the chopping block anyways but its going to be far more annoying to change all our passwords.
crappyjones123 Posted June 25, 2015 Author Report Posted June 25, 2015 Just read the article. That's the exact behavior. She entered her billing address but nothing else luckily. The router was begging to be replaced as it is. So just going to play it safe and replace it. 1
jvlgato Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 Might need to change her Amazon log in and password though ...
crappyjones123 Posted June 25, 2015 Author Report Posted June 25, 2015 Yup changing everything right now tethered to my phone's LTE.
skullguise Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 Good luck CJ & Julie, glad it was caught now.....as others said/implied, better than later!
crappyjones123 Posted June 25, 2015 Author Report Posted June 25, 2015 Thank you . Should I be worried about the cable modem as well or is there nothing in there that could be compromised security wise?
