cetoole Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 Kinda want to get one. Anywhere I should look besides SVS? Those sealed units seem pretty enticing.
Grahame Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 I like mine. You seem like a dual 13 ultra kind of guy to me
naamanf Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 If you can DIY I suggest a MiniDSP IcePower plate amp with a 18" SI sub. Best bang for the buck IMHO
Dusty Chalk Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 I heard them there es-vee-es subs are pretty darn good, so I got two. 1
jvlgato Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 Boy, I saw this and thought it was a Tice joke ...
roadtonowhere08 Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 For the money, I have not found anything that is a better product than SVS. Mine is about 10 years old and still kicks ass. 1
RudeWolf Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 I have a SB-2000 incomming tomorrow. I'll be mating it with my KEF LS50s. 1
jvlgato Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 (edited) I really liked the sub that Pappy 'Sorbine is using with his Moths. I forget what it was. Hsu, but can't recall which. And agree based on Beer Bryan's Lowther system. Sounds great! Edited June 11, 2015 by jvlgato
Hopstretch Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 Heard a lot of good things about these guys. http://www.rythmikaudio.com/products1.html Can't really fault SVS though -- I have two of their cylinder subs (which I foolishly thought would be less conspicuous than the boxes, and then they turned out to be the size of fucking oil drums) and objectively way too much bass. Which is kinda fun. 2
Absorbine_Sr Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 Hsu, but can't recall which. And agree based on Beer Bryan's Lowther system. Sounds great! HSU Research STF-2. Bryan and I are quite happy.
swt61 Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 Boy, I saw this and thought it was a Tice joke ... Shhh. Colin doesn't realize he is a sub. I told him this suit is the height of fashion. 2

Dusty Chalk Posted June 12, 2015 Report Posted June 12, 2015 ...size of fucking oil drums) and objectively way too much bass. Which is kinda fun. My friend who got one likens it to a water heater. He has since gotten divorced. He still has the subwoofer. (He only got the one.)
shellylh Posted June 12, 2015 Report Posted June 12, 2015 Tim was going to get me an SVS SB-2000 for Christmas. I've thought about buying one for myself but it might make me sad.
Voltron Posted June 12, 2015 Report Posted June 12, 2015 I have two REL subs in different setups and I like their quickness and good integration.
RudeWolf Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 Did a sub-off at the office. My SVS SB-2000 (699€) vs Dynaudio BM9S II (990€) which my boss bought together with his BM5 monitors. Long story short, the BM9S is going back to Thomann.de. Tim was going to get me an SVS SB-2000 for Christmas. I've thought about buying one for myself but it might make me sad. I have a hard time imagining this thing making anyone sad.
Dreadhead Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 (edited) ^ not cool man. Reminders of the people you've lost are at minimum bittersweet. Edited June 13, 2015 by Dreadhead 1
RudeWolf Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 Aww shoot, wasn't aware that I was stepping on some sensitive stuff. Sorry about that! Besides SVS, Rel, Hsu and BK Electronics have pretty nice subs for the money.
luvdunhill Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 Naaman: I like those plate amps, but I have a tapped horn and not sure if they would interfere with operation, so I would consider a bussel or completely separate enclosure. Ever seen a separate enclosure?
naamanf Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 Naaman: I like those plate amps, but I have a tapped horn and not sure if they would interfere with operation, so I would consider a bussel or completely separate enclosure. Ever seen a separate enclosure? Don't think it would be a problem, simple box for mounting the amp with wires to your sub. The amp isn't sealed, so if built into a sub it needs to be in it's own sealed enclosure anyway.
luvdunhill Posted June 13, 2015 Report Posted June 13, 2015 I think it's better to just get the connectors on either end of a box. I suppose it's easy to buy the components separately and find a nice Hammond case to use. I think this is a nice project for a rainy day. Any experience controlling these via a digital output and then routing signal to the other full range speakers via an analogue output? I would have to do something like this as well. Hm. Gets one thinking. 1
