Dreadhead Posted April 4, 2016 Report Posted April 4, 2016 Soooo it turns out that this place just opened up about 8 miles from our lake house: http://roadcourse.dominionraceway.com/ I wish I had Jeff Level budgets but that's too rich for my blood even at the lowest level membership. 3
HemiSam Posted April 4, 2016 Report Posted April 4, 2016 That's very cool! Doesn't get more convenient than that. HS
Dreadhead Posted April 6, 2016 Report Posted April 6, 2016 In the awesome news turns out that course is taking part in SCCA Track Nights: http://www.wdcr-scca.org/news/tracknightinamerica In less awesome news that's a hell of a long way away from our home for a weeknight.
Looser101 Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 (edited) Had some work done this past week. Got her tuned today. Done at Innovative Tuning in Buffalo. Follow me on Instagram: @renato1.01 Edited April 10, 2016 by Looser101 3
HemiSam Posted April 12, 2016 Report Posted April 12, 2016 Very nice, 101! Great looking ride. Just got back from an event where I got to test out my new setup. The first day was a bit painful....some teething pains and it hailed after only two passes. We worked through those and I managed some clean passes the second track day which was cool and sunny. This pass we pushed the boost ramp and found the track's limits. It was a colorful pass for a couple of reasons... I've got some adjustments to make like rear gear and tune tweaks, but it's close to being in a good place. HS 4

Follow me on Instagram: @renato1.01 Be careful, as I've blown a PAR gearset and a Chalak gearset on a boosted blueprinted 2000 Impreza RS with aftermarket turbo kit pushing those kind of numbers. Then again, back in those days you needed the automatic transmission to handle more than 300 whp, as the upgraded gearsets for Subaru 5-speed were not strong enough, even the ones with no synchros for wider and stronger gears (hated double clutching rev matching with n synchros). Stock gearsets were good for about 240 ft/lbs if you used an ACT clutch that would slip, but a ceramic clutch that would grab would just blow up the gears instead of slipping. I'm one of the few people that have managed to blow up the front differential ring and pinon at the same times as 5th gear.
Dreadhead Posted April 12, 2016 Report Posted April 12, 2016 (edited) Interesting. As of right now I wasn't planning/daydreaming about a gearing upgrade. I was just looking at a suspension, clutch/flywheel, stage 3 and LSD. Edit: It appears that the Getrag in the car deals with all that just fine... Edited April 12, 2016 by Dreadhead 2
Looser101 Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 That was a nice pass Sam. Well done. Larry on my model year the 5 speed is good for at least 350whp. If it breaks I'll do an sti 6 speed swap. The 6 speed is good for 600whp. 1
Dreadhead Posted April 14, 2016 Report Posted April 14, 2016 Good: All set for my first G Street Autocross event on Sunday. 2 Other Focus ST in my class so I'll have a good baseline (even if mines a bit of a porker with the sunroof) and the dealer fixed the autoglass issue and a minor issue with the hand brake that also now meant I got a fully re-aligned gear setup and that's way smoother which is great. Bad: my and Meaghan's cars got bumper damage from peoples front license plate screws, not sure where but I'm guessing someone at daycare is a fucking idiot. 2
VPI Posted April 14, 2016 Author Report Posted April 14, 2016 I guess you need to teach the kids to tuck and roll so you can do drive-by daycare drop-off. Solves the idiot parallel parking by crashing problem. 3
Dreadhead Posted April 15, 2016 Report Posted April 15, 2016 I drove the car to the lake today to deal with something and took a detour to haul ass down a country road. That was fun. 4
Dreadhead Posted April 16, 2016 Report Posted April 16, 2016 (edited) My camera mount and vinyl magnets for numbers arrived for tomorrow. Not sure if I will mount inside or outside. I think the outside view is pretty cool but I'm not sure which is better for autocross. Edit: After reading a bit I changed to the B column but forgot to switch to wide screen. Should work well. swt61 Posted April 16, 2016 Report Posted April 16, 2016 Come on now Chris, I expected you take out a few skateboarders at least. You even gave the old bike cart guy too much room. 2
Hopstretch Posted April 17, 2016 Report Posted April 17, 2016 Interesting. Dash cams are big here in the UK due to the prevalence of "crash for cash" scams. I've been toying with setting something up in the X5.
Craig Sawyers Posted April 17, 2016 Report Posted April 17, 2016 I've got a forward looking one that is not in the car at the moment - the micro-SD card died. New one on the way. But if I was doing this again, I would have the variety that looks both forward and backward so you can record rear end collisions, or car park damage.
Dreadhead Posted April 17, 2016 Report Posted April 17, 2016 I got my ass handed to me. I did like the B Pillar location though Edit: Turned out I got 3rd out of 6. The guy I was talking to destroyed everyone so I was more competitive than I thought in the rest. 3
HemiSam Posted April 17, 2016 Report Posted April 17, 2016 Congratulations! That's a great start for a new ride. Most beginners overdrive a car. Key is momentum, keeping the shifts at a minimum (especially if you're a stick car), don't over brake or over pedal....momentum. Sounds a lot easier than it is. Be ready for a lot of tire purchases HS 1
HemiSam Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 Some cool rides. I notice the Lotusssss have Hoosier road race "slicks" (they actually have a few grooves)....mostly likely the R7's. Great tires if you choose to get serious. HS
Dreadhead Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 I am not allowed to run R compound in the GS class. I was planning on waiting until next year for new rubber. I am getting more comfortable with my placing as I realized that both people that beat me were experienced, the winner has been running his car for years and had the rear sway bar and better rubber. The next guy is very active in SCCA and races his corvette on the track. I was the first novice. 1
HemiSam Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 I think you did great, Dreadhead. Really. I hope your tires last as long as you hope. Racing is hard on them... If they don't, there are other good options that I expect will improve upon the OEM rubbers and still meet class specs. Best of luck. HS 1
TMoney Posted April 18, 2016 Report Posted April 18, 2016 Awesome videos, Chris! I think you need to come online and hone your skills in PCars at some point this week. 1
MexicanDragon Posted April 19, 2016 Report Posted April 19, 2016 Chris, GStock, right? Unless they changed something, you can run R-Comps in stock class. I remember beating up on Civic SIs with my e30 in G Stock. Loved that class. **BRENT** 1
Dreadhead Posted April 19, 2016 Report Posted April 19, 2016 Nope they changed the rules a bunch. Road tires.
