jvlgato Posted March 10, 2016 Report Posted March 10, 2016 Chris, did you ever get around to actually driving an ST? I think the torque steer may drive you crazy. AWD FTW! And ... The Beard! Agree with everyone else. Get the RS. Safer. Plus I'll bet you'd also just enjoy driving it a lot more because of the AWD. At least drive the ST before you decide.
Dreadhead Posted March 10, 2016 Report Posted March 10, 2016 (edited) Thanks all for the advice but I've decided on the ST even if the RS is a superior car. If I really start making cars a "hobby" then I can justify paying $25+k more when I replace it in a few years but right now that's not guaranteed. Also we have a 10 year anniversary coming up next year and I want a nice watch and the ability to buy my wife one too. (Also add a 2nd bathroom to the lake house) 49 minutes ago, jvlgato said: Chris, did you ever get around to actually driving an ST? I think the torque steer may drive you crazy. AWD FTW! And ... I took the ST out over the weekend and had a good time. Nothing about it drove me nuts. Though the backseat room is an issue but I don't expect to keep it long enough for that to be an issue. 10 hours ago, Voltron said: Go for it, Chris. This is Head-Case, not Panty-Waist! Panty-waist here. Hopefully I can re-earn what little cred I had here through other feats of purchasing in the near future in the watches thread. 8 hours ago, MexicanDragon said: The beard is wise. Does that mean I will not be perma-banned? 8 hours ago, Dusty Chalk said: Indeed, you are correct. I am not a white car guy, but damn that's nice. ...is what I meant to say. I think the 2016 ST is quite a looker too: The ST also has the advantage that it's a known quantity in both SCCA Rallycross and Autocross and is competitive in both classes. In closing while I am compromising which isn't allowed here I hope you all can forgive me. Edited March 10, 2016 by Dreadhead 5
MexicanDragon Posted March 10, 2016 Report Posted March 10, 2016 I think some Coventry is in order... **BRENT**

HemiSam Posted March 10, 2016 Report Posted March 10, 2016 Car looks great IMO. Very nice choice. If you can live with the torque steer, you'll be golden and keep peace at home. Comes in particularly handy during cold nights if I may say so myself... My first new car was a 1993 Ford Probe GT after a couple of years out of grad school. Tons of fun in the 5-speed format once I outfitted it with proper tires. That was my first torque steer experience. HS
Grand Enigma Posted March 10, 2016 Report Posted March 10, 2016 I had a Saab Viggen in high school that had the most ridiculous torque steer. Did not want to do anything but go in a straight line
Dreadhead Posted March 10, 2016 Report Posted March 10, 2016 (edited) Well that's not my actual car but that is the configuration I am getting. I am excited about seeing her in the flesh soon. Calling the dealer in a few to see how long it will take him to get me one but should be fast. Edited March 10, 2016 by Dreadhead 1
VPI Posted March 10, 2016 Author Report Posted March 10, 2016 If you get it before I leave we should do the Sunday South Riding C&C as that place is packed with Focus and Fiesta STs. 2
Voltron Posted March 10, 2016 Report Posted March 10, 2016 My legal opinion is that the ST pictured above is better looking than the aforementioned RS. I don't think the Panty-Waist should be banned for that purchase. Congrat on the new car! 4

Dreadhead Posted March 10, 2016 Report Posted March 10, 2016 Coming in from somewhere in Maryland and should be here tomorrow or Saturday. I would love to be able to drive it to work on Monday..... 1
jvlgato Posted March 10, 2016 Report Posted March 10, 2016 Cool. Both nice cars! One can adjust to torque steer. Maybe even make it fun. The GTI apparently has minimal torque steer. Maybe Ford figured it out, too.

Dusty Chalk Posted March 11, 2016 Report Posted March 11, 2016 I found this particular scene memorable, because typically Klingons are so violent, this is their ultimate insult. Sort of like the British dismissing with "Good day, sir!"
Dreadhead Posted March 11, 2016 Report Posted March 11, 2016 I won't hear from Brent for a while win win. 5
cetoole Posted March 11, 2016 Report Posted March 11, 2016 There is a lot to be said for not having to wait several months for delivery as well. Should be lots of fun! 1

Dreadhead Posted March 11, 2016 Report Posted March 11, 2016 Should be at the dealer this morning and will be ready for pickup this afternoon. Hopefully I can close the deal this evening but I'm not sure yet. If not that then tomorrow morning. Edit: all arranged for tonight 6
HemiSam Posted March 11, 2016 Report Posted March 11, 2016 New car smell on the horizon....congrats! HS 1
