UFN Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 Crossposted from diyaudio: http://www.onsemi.com/pub/docs/pcn/PD20685.pdf On-semi are discontinuing all of their TO-92 products because of a disagreement with a subcontractor. List includes all the MPSWs.... //UFN
Pars Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 Holy fuck on a stick! That is a pretty broad swath of product!
Laowei Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 That's an original way to boost the Black Friday sales stats......
spritzer Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 For fucks sake.... Ohh well, back to finding replacements.
insanity Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 Ah fuck. What should be do? Buy some stock or is there a high probability of finding an adequate replacement?
kevin gilmore Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 fuck me. but what else is new i think there are fairchild equivalents, but maybe not same pinout.
Dusty Chalk Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 Bap shoo be do... Don't mind me, I see humour in everything.
kevin gilmore Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 well I just bought a lifetime supply of the mpsw06 and mpsw56 just to make sure. And at 1000 pieces, dirt cheap. TT electronics is probably the best bet, have to get a quote from mouser so group buy kind of thing. going to search available Japanese companies now. looking for 80v npn and pnp, 1 watt
nopants Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 Is mouser out of parts already? I need to make an order too
kevin gilmore Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 I would hurry. last order date dec 31 last delivery date in may but the following parts are identical silicon in surface mount pzta06,pzta56 so will have to make adapters because they require 6cm2 of heatsink copper
gepardcv Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 I just ordered 200 of each. Should be plenty for me, and I'm willing to share.
mypasswordis Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 Checking this place is not good for my wallet. I ordered some as well; thanks for letting us know, UFN. Currently Mouser still has enough to go around.

muskyhuntr Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 Stocks dwindling, got 50 each myself. Me
nopants Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 I think I have a former stock of 100 pieces I guess I can make do
kevin gilmore Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 mpsa06/mpsa56 can be substituted everywhere except the outputs on the kgdynalobal (have to check power levels on dynahi)
GrindingThud Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 Just ordered for my second SuSy Dynalo set.... Looks like this affects the KSA5 clone also.
spritzer Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 I bought 1000 of each type because... well I'm nuts. I've spent way too much on transistors this month though....
PretentiousFood Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 Any reason to stock up if you're not building a Dynalo? Looks like the BC550/560 pair could be a drop in replacement unless you need the extra dissipation.
spritzer Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 KGSSHV/KGST/KGSSHV Carbon etc. all use these.
UFN Posted November 27, 2014 Author Report Posted November 27, 2014 Many of the things that On-semi are now dropping seem to have equivalents (or near-enough equivalents) from Fairchild and others, except if you need/want the MPSW 1W package. That said, I'd never thought I see the day where I considered stockpiling BC547Bs just to be safe... //UFN 1
insanity Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 How is the KGSSHV Carbon coming? Any impressions on a prototype?
spritzer Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 I all but abandoned the project when the difference between new and old 009's came to light but I did just order PCB's for it. Who knows when I'll build them though...
insanity Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 Nice to hear. Although the IMHO the KGST is really magical with the old 009. It leaves almost nothing to wish for.
nopants Posted November 27, 2014 Report Posted November 27, 2014 maybe it's time to fire up the circolotron nudge nudge
