recstar24
Hi, I am behind about 4 years, but apparently these are nice speakers. The lowthers have a new home, and the quads should be a nice fit. At one point there was a dealer that a lot of you guys went through for a nice price, that I can't remember, but if you had another source, let me know. shellylh
They are nice sounding speakers but I have had a lot of problems with mine - mostly loose connections (to tweeter/RCA and XLR connections). I don't know if they were refurbs sold as new but I probably wouldn't get another pair. They are a little too noisy for near field listening for me. I had to send back one of the first ones I got because the noise was really bad. Now, the noise is just slightly annoying.
recstar24
Thanks Shelley for the feedback. I am also going to look into dynaudio, as well as the Adam series and emotiva stealth.
shellylh
The Emotiva Stealth look yummy.
blessingx
With the LS50s the house I'm likely going to be selling mine. Ping me if you're interested. I'll give you a good deal.
Dusty Chalk
Lanemart? Don't seem to be active on eBay or Audiogon recently, though.
recstar24
Thanks to ric it appears I am going to have a set coming in soon! For now these will not be a desktop system but actual stand alones. I'll gladly take cheaper speaker stand recs if anyone has any.
recstar24
Rics old set is in on a nice loan from ric for me to check out. I've got it setup in the most absolute God awful way but am impressed at how decent they sound! Going to try and get my rack back in the middle and these things are huge so they'll need some stands - will pick up some cheap ones later today to see how they sound with some breathing room.
Grahame
You've reminded me how bright the LED's were by default. Nothing duct tape, a hole punch and a sharpie couldn't fix
Dusty Chalk
I went to great lengths to get the front panel flush with the monitor of the computer I was using them with, and have a bit of overhang on the reams of paper I had them on. They sound even better once you get them out in the room a bit. You can't create something from nothing, so nothing will invent the lowest bass that isn't there, but when I had them in the office, I never missed a sub. recstar24
The tonal balance is so nice I don't really notice the bass or lack thereof. I am hoping I can find a way to get these into the room more as its kind of weird having them setup the way they are.
manaox2
I love my pair still. No problem with near field with the prefectwave DAC and xlr. Tidal sounds nice. Edited November 27, 2014 by manaox2
