Hopstretch Posted November 12, 2018 Author Report Posted November 12, 2018 Quote We find ourselves in a cold civil war. Everyone is playing their part too well. Certain actors are reaping power and wealth from divisiveness. Echoes of the Spanish civil war when fascists and clergy win because they put up a united front against the individualistic and principled (yet scattered) left. We can turn this ship around but need to step back and be honest with ourselves about what’s happening while it’s still relatively bloodless. Hope he's wrong. 3
Dusty Chalk Posted November 13, 2018 Report Posted November 13, 2018 I can't imagine that wavering horn riff being anything but annoying, yet they've managed the My Bloody Valentine thing -- repeat it until it becomes addictive as all... 2
Hopstretch Posted November 13, 2018 Author Report Posted November 13, 2018 It has an energy for sure! Speaking of which, YouTube served this up tonight. They get me. 5
Dusty Chalk Posted November 14, 2018 Report Posted November 14, 2018 I believe I posted that whole concert somewhere. So great. Some randoms that came up at DSW last night: 1
Hopstretch Posted November 15, 2018 Author Report Posted November 15, 2018 I get kind of a The Knife vibe from this. 1

Hopstretch Posted November 17, 2018 Author Report Posted November 17, 2018 (edited) Strip out all the video BS and you have a moderately decent new Smashing Pumpkins song, which is better than nothing. Edited November 17, 2018 by Hopstretch 2
Dusty Chalk Posted November 17, 2018 Report Posted November 17, 2018 Thank you for skipping that intro. I rewound, but a warning to others: it is really annoying.
Hopstretch Posted November 19, 2018 Author Report Posted November 19, 2018 Also this. It bounces. His hair is tragic though. 1
Dusty Chalk Posted November 19, 2018 Report Posted November 19, 2018 I would love to hear it without that stupid autotune effect.
Dusty Chalk Posted November 21, 2018 Report Posted November 21, 2018 That’s actually a really great song.

Dusty Chalk Posted November 22, 2018 Report Posted November 22, 2018 I've been listening to this on repeat.
Knuckledragger Posted November 22, 2018 Report Posted November 22, 2018 (edited) I was in an extended discussion with a friend of mine tonight (a few of you will know him as Bludvessel) about how modern pop music makes me ill. We covered some of the studio tricks used on things like Taylor Swift's dance pop and Gabrielle's "Dreams" (don't look it up) and how they make me QUESTION MY VERY WILL TO KEEP ON LIVING. We then moved on to pop music that I actually like. Oddly (and by that, I mean "not odd in the slightest") KSIA came up. I have ...strip mined YouTube and P2P for live KISA. There is precious little. There are a few music videos, some official some not. I've never seen this one before: Dunno if I remotely GAF about the video, but the song is one of my favorite by KISA. I mostly prefer the original incarnation of KISA with Sarah P on vox, but there's a lot of material on the second album with Jessica Bell singing that's basically as good as synthpop gets. My favorite touch is the acoustic phone that rings briefly during the breakdown. While we're on the subject of KSIA, this is the song that got me into them way back when: Edited November 22, 2018 by Knuckledragger 3

Dusty Chalk Posted December 1, 2018 Report Posted December 1, 2018 I used to have a video of several uncensored music videos. I don’t remember this one being on it. Nice find. See also, The Chauffeur, Girls on Film (two personal favourites). Also, I really loved that song, especially the stilted syncopation during the chorus. What is that, 10/8? Was that an enema bag?
Dusty Chalk Posted December 7, 2018 Report Posted December 7, 2018 That first melody she sings...right up there with Stevie Nicks perfection... My contribution:

Dusty Chalk Posted December 8, 2018 Report Posted December 8, 2018 (goes down rabbit hole of Cars videos, including interviews) Damn, I think everyone in the band had a mullet. Also, they were really good. Listen to the bass in this one. And that instrumental break at the end. So good. 1
