johnwmclean Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 and about time... I’ve been keenly anticipating this . Here’s a link for those that are interested or have missed the news; http://www.amb.org/forum/gamma3-high-resolution-dac-development-t2656.html
Sherwood Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 Looks fun to these untrained eyes. I'd love to build one, but I'm far too green to be any help to development.
n_maher Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 Interesting. I'll try to follow development but I hardly knew that there was a γ2, not to mention a 3...
Nebby Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 Interesting. I'll try to follow development but I hardly knew that there was a γ2, not to mention a 3...The γ2 was the double width γ1 with the second pcb that interfaced into it I'm definitely going to follow the development of the 3.
Voltron Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 I still have a γ1 that I think Nate made. I used it with my Squeezebox for a long time. I should un-retire it or pass it along to somebody.
n_maher Posted May 28, 2014 Report Posted May 28, 2014 If I had a way to use a USB DAC I would offer to adopt it or would have built a y2 ages ago. But ever since I changed jobs and can no longer legally plug an unapproved USB device into my work computer it's not been an option.
amb Posted November 25, 2015 Report Posted November 25, 2015 Hi everyone! It's been a long road from inception to reality, but the γ3 is finally out! Check its website: http://www.amb.org/audio/gamma3/ and its companion module, the γ24: http://www.amb.org/audio/gamma24/ 4
UFN Posted November 25, 2015 Report Posted November 25, 2015 Great work as usual Ti - must have been a pretty big job to do all of those modules. //UFN
amb Posted November 25, 2015 Report Posted November 25, 2015 Thanks! Yes, this is an ambitious project involving a lot of circuitry, and firmware work too. That's why it took 1.5 years.
johnwmclean Posted November 25, 2015 Author Report Posted November 25, 2015 That’s got to be one on the cleanest set of instructions, list of parts etc I’ve ever seen. Congrats Ti, very tempting!
Kerry Posted November 25, 2015 Report Posted November 25, 2015 (edited) I've been following this for a while with great anticipation. Really glad it's out. Congratulations! I've already got the z1 board. I'll probably do one stock y3 and then use some of the components to do something more custom. Thanks for all of your efforts with this. JoaMat Posted June 27, 2016 Report Posted June 27, 2016 A working y3. All right, need a nice chassis. Indeed, a very impressive DAC from AMB. I’m very grateful for all the work that have been put in this project. Thanks a lot Ti. 9
insanity Posted June 27, 2016 Report Posted June 27, 2016 (edited) This is the first finished y3 I see on this forum. Can you elaborate a bit on the sound? How much is the approx. cost in parts? Some chips are around 20$ I think. Edited June 27, 2016 by insanity
Kerry Posted June 27, 2016 Report Posted June 27, 2016 Nice work Joachim I've had my eye on this for a bit now and was reading the development forum as it was coming together. I ordered the Z1 as I think it will make a great USB in device. Yes, let us know what you think of the sound. I'm thinking of basing my DAC off of this.

JoaMat Posted June 28, 2016 Report Posted June 28, 2016 aluminium allergy Don't like make comments on how things sound or perform. Anyhow, after several hours of listening, I like y3 significant better than my NAD M51 and Benchmark DAC2. OK, I did build it myself which might explain my view. But it's no question that y3 is a high performance DAC and is despite some SMD parts relatively easy to build.
JoaMat Posted July 9, 2016 Report Posted July 9, 2016 An IR remote volume control. Not built today, but brought it out in daylight today after four years. Need a volume control for AMB y3. Might work a little bit more with, it looks like …… . 1
Kerry Posted July 9, 2016 Report Posted July 9, 2016 Very interesting. It took me a bit to figure out what I was looking at. Nice! I want to build that into my smart phone
JoaMat Posted February 1, 2020 Report Posted February 1, 2020 (edited) As the good father I’m I gave my son my NAD M51 DAC. I think he needs decent equipment with balanced outputs. So now use this as my DAC. Sounds great!!! Don’t understand why I didn’t finished this long time ago… wife is very understanding… Edited February 15, 2020 by JoaMat 9 1
Kerry Posted February 1, 2020 Report Posted February 1, 2020 I wish my kids cared more about high quality audio. Very nice of you indeed. 1
n_maher Posted February 2, 2020 Report Posted February 2, 2020 Always wanted to build one of those, still think about it from time to but I've got too much stuff as it is. Maybe if I find a second audio room or something... 2
JoaMat Posted February 13, 2020 Report Posted February 13, 2020 (edited) Today’s mini project. Timer 555 with a few other components. When IN (the empty pad just below left leg of the two color LED) is low then RED, if high then GREEN. Standby/On indicator. Edited February 13, 2020 by JoaMat 9
