ironbut Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 Tomorrow night (here in Nor Cal) KQED will air an Independent Lens that looks like it should be killer. Check out the trailer. http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/tv-schedule/
Dusty Chalk Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 Yeah, that's been on my list for a while. My friend Tivo'd it, when I mentioned I wanted to see it, he said he'd save it for me, he wanted to watch it again.
agile_one Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 Thanks, Steve - looks like I get it here. Should be fun.
postjack Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 Watched this a few months ago, STUPID good. Everyone who loves music should watch this as quickly as possible. I'm ashamed to admit that even as a lifelong resident of Alabama I had no idea the history this studio in Muscle Shoals had. Fascinating how so many things so important to music can happen in one place. And the guy who started and ran the studio is the most fascinating character out of everyone in the doc. For a similar type of documentary, check out the Dave Grohl directed "Sound City" if you haven't already. Also outstanding and surprisingly emotional.
ironbut Posted May 2, 2014 Author Report Posted May 2, 2014 I just found out it's been added to Netflix. 1
jp11801 Posted May 5, 2014 Report Posted May 5, 2014 been on a music doc mini tear and this one was really great, thanks for the tip off. Those guys are on more hit records than Elvis, MJ and the Beatles combined it seems
ironbut Posted May 5, 2014 Author Report Posted May 5, 2014 You probably seen "Desperate Man Blues" on PBS or IMF but it's a great one; http://www.dust-digital.com/dmb-dvd/ For those interested in recording studios and the early engineers, "Tom Dowd and the Language of Music" is amazing! If you can't find it online, I have the DVD and I'd be willing to lend it out. There was also a BBC production that followed Sir George Martin around the world searching for the roots of music which was also called "The Language of Music". I've only seen one of those but I'd love to find the rest. 1
Voltron Posted May 5, 2014 Report Posted May 5, 2014 I'm really looking forward to watching this soon.
