Grand Enigma Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 Looking to get a set of active studio monitors. Having a hard time deciding between a set of coaxial's such as Equator or PreSonus or ribbon's such as Emotiva or Adam. Both have their pros and cons, but there is no way for me to try all of them in my office. Budget is about $1,500.
MexicanDragon Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 Buy all of them, return what you don't like. **BRENT**
Riotvan Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 (edited) Focal Solo6 is very nice imo but maybe a bit out of your budget, not sure on the pricing overseas. Final edit: i think i drank too much last night. Edited April 5, 2014 by Riotvan
RudeWolf Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 I wouldn't fixate on the driver technology. Both can sound terrific. Get the one that sounds the best to you.
Grand Enigma Posted April 5, 2014 Author Report Posted April 5, 2014 Aside from trips to B&H and Guitar Center, I will not be able to audition these at the same time in the same environment, nor does anyone carry the Emotivas.
Matt_Carter Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 I wholeheartedly recommend the Neumann KH120. At top of the page you can find my comments on them. Have any questions on them or their big bother, shoot.
Hopstretch Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 Mini-Maggies? http://www.magnepan.com/model_mini_maggie
Dusty Chalk Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 Fuck Coaxials. Fuck ribbons. Quad 12L Actives are where it's at. You have your head ears roughly in the plane of the tweeters and you're done. They got no bottom, but you have a little bit of budget left over for a sub. I listen to the Equators all the time, but the budget on them were $300 -- if you got more dosh, the Quads are the best in their price bracket. I have no experience with the Emotivas. Yet.
MexicanDragon Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 10$ Wharfedale Diamonds from the 80s from a thrift shop. **BRENT**
grawk Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 Baguettes powered monitors were pretty nice. Significantly better than the emotivas. I recommend them. You'll need a BIG desk tho. 2
Dusty Chalk Posted May 10, 2014 Report Posted May 10, 2014 Yuh, those were fantastic. I told Jeff he needs to get them for his piano instead of listening to the built-in speakers.
