norfolk Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 Finally have a little cash to become active around here again. Looking for a USB DAC to match up with the Lambda normal bias + SRM-T1 I just bought from Birgir. I've narrowed it down to these 2. Any have any personal experience with either? Anything else you'd recommend? Looking to keep the price under $500. Quote
norfolk Posted March 6, 2014 Author Report Posted March 6, 2014 oooh. Interesting. These work well in headphone setups? I've read about them mainly being used with speakers. Quote
HeadphoneAddict Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 oooh. Interesting. These work well in headphone setups? I've read about them mainly being used with speakers. He wouldn't have recommended it otherwise. Quote
norfolk Posted March 6, 2014 Author Report Posted March 6, 2014 yeah, but...yeah you're probably right. Quote
mypasswordis Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 dacs for speakers are completely different from dacs for headphones, just fyi Quote
postjack Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 a turkey po boy and a bag of day old cookies! Quote
Grand Enigma Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 The Bifrost with uber analogue is as good as any $500ish DAC I've heard. Quote
postjack Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 in terms of amps, there are so many options in the $500-$1000 price point I wouldn't even know where to begin. I'd probably try the schiit stuff, or maybe a used benchmark. Quote

Absorbine_Sr Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 The Bifrost with uber analogue is as good as any $500ish DAC I've heard. I've got the Bifrost with USB and uber analog and use it in my speaker rig. To me it hits well above its price range, but for the full package it will cost you closer to $650. Quote
nopants Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 if you don't need the USB input you can get the bifrost with the upgraded analog stage. It looks like a solid package for the money, I was interested in it when I was looking around for a Vout DAC Quote
postjack Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 Schiit must be doing something right. They appear to decent people making decent products at decent prices. I've really been enjoying the Schiit story over on headcase. Cool to read about how a company like that gets started. Quote
wink Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 I've really been enjoying the Schiit story over on Nut-Fi. FTFY. 1 Quote
norfolk Posted March 7, 2014 Author Report Posted March 7, 2014 alright, guess it's time to get schiity. Quote
K3cT Posted March 8, 2014 Report Posted March 8, 2014 Is the Uber analog upgrade a significant improvement? I feel that the Resonessence Concero plays in a different league than a stock Bifrost. Quote
swt61 Posted March 8, 2014 Report Posted March 8, 2014 FWIW the Parasound ZDAC is a very nice unit. I've been very happy with mine. 2 Quote
