blessingx Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 This could be end up being a nice solution for some. http://store.acousticsounds.com/d/94817/Sony-USB_Hi-Res_DAC_System-DA_Converter_or_Processor Quote
nopants Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 from my five minutes of shitty googling: pcm1795 lm2876 chipamps 4580 opamps (for what I'm not sure, I/V duty?) It seems like a solid set of parts for an all-in-one. Can't see much else so I don't know if there's a separate headphone amplifier. Quote
skullguise Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 I liked the Wadia PowerDAC that I had, similar type of unit. This seems to take it a step further with the DSD input, plus line in & out.... Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 I bet it sounds really good with Sony headphones. Quote
Riotvan Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 I don't like fans, especially small ones. Quote

Riotvan Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 It's a little too late for that no take-backsies. Quote

Dusty Chalk Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 I think he's talking about the fan on the back panel. Although I am now so thoroughly entertained by the peanut gallery's contributions that I almost didn't say anything. Sent from mah phone-blet via Tapatalk Quote
Voltron Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 I'm quite sure that Jim knew what he meant and made a punny post in response. Quote
Knuckledragger Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 That reminds me, this is still one of the best things ever: Quote
nopants Posted January 14, 2014 Report Posted January 14, 2014 (edited) Well it is sort of a valid point, the dust buildup will be substantial. It's quite busy in there, must be an EMI nightmare. On a related note, for those with a bigger budget, I found this in the related images search - http://www.amazon.com/Sony-HAPZ1ES-Hi-Res-Player-System/dp/B00FFZD29Q Internals Seems like it might be a more compelling unit in some of your audiotistic setups. If you were anal about fans I could imagine some bullshitting with an SSD and/or heatsink would go a long way in this unit. Edited January 14, 2014 by nopants Quote

I indeed was just talking about that fan, if you misunderstood and were insulted in some way my apologies. But yeah the thing i don't like about fans mostly is the smaller they are the more annoying the noise is. Even more so if it starts to wear out or has to spin too fast. And indeed the dust is an issue as well, judging by the label the fan is set to suck air out of the case which creates negative air pressure which in turn makes the case a giant dust magnet. Maybe it only spins at a certain power output but i doubt it given how busy it is inside that case. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 Well they did make that SCD-XA777ES, was it? That Justin favors so much. So maybe we should disconnect the fan and put in some passive cooling, and/or recase it with a larger quieter specialized fan before we give up on it. And by we, I mean one of you DIY guys. Quote
morphsci Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 Holland must be a very dusty country. Quote
Riotvan Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 Nah we have positive pressure all around and we like our fans big. Quote
DefQon Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 EMI filter cores? Hmm hopefully nothing like the badly designed SACD series Sony had back in the day that all had grounding issues with the PCB's. Sweet looking 1TB music player though. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted January 16, 2014 Report Posted January 16, 2014 That's...um...for lack of a better term, 'high'? Quote
guzziguy Posted January 16, 2014 Report Posted January 16, 2014 Not a problem, that kind of distortion is undetectable if one is listening with Beats. Quote
Torpedo Posted January 16, 2014 Report Posted January 16, 2014 or drunk. or doing whatever that takes your attention elsewhere. No one listens to the music anymore. Quote
Dusty Chalk Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 I do. Especially when I'm drunk. That's a tweak, man. It does iOS and Android, I wonder if it does linux. That's one thing I miss about this HRT, it stops working every time I switch over to linux. Quote
