Just discovered The Fosters on Netflix. It's an NBC series I think. Some overdone drama, and a little predictable here and there, but underneath is a pretty poignant, more realistic modern family. Not that I have any complaints about the very funny Modern Family series. This series is about two lesbian partners who were raising the Son of a previous marriage to one, then added two adopted twins that needed a home. The series starts with the current temporary fostering of a "high risk" teen.

The series deals with several issues, with a heavy underlying theme of modern gay life. It's touching and smart in parts, but it's almost like the writers are being bullied into the 'after school special' mentality that once flooded network TV. Still, for me the good parts outweigh the bad, and I find it refreshing to see a network series depicting gay life without zany, overdone queer antics.
