I went to Grady's Record Refuge today and enjoyed picking out some vintage vinyl

Crosby Stills & Nash - Crosby Stills & Nash

CSNY - Deja Vu

Supertramp - Paris

Emerson Lake & Palmer - The Best of Emerson Lake & Palmer

Emerson Lake & Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery

Joni Mitchell - Court and Spark

Loggins & Messina - The Best of Loggins & Messina

I just finished cleaning some of them, now for an evening of vintage vinyl on a vintage turntable through a tube phono preamp and tube headphone amp, the way music is supposed to be listened to.

There is a rumor that Mosaic Records might be going out of business. So now might be the time to pick up any box sets you want. Thelonious Monk Complete Live At the It Club was one of my favorite jazz purchases from last year.

Special editions of Epica's The Divine Conspiracy and Design your Universe to get the bonus tracks. It is odd, ripping DYU SE produces FLAC files about 30mb larger than the normal edition, not counting the bonus track. Very large CD, 79 minutes of awesome music.

Most of my recent music purchases have come via my Magnatune membership, but this week...

Mike Oldfield .... Tubular Bells = a classic that I somehow have not acquired

Everything But the Girl - Idlewild = Thank you Antonio! Excellent. No scratch that, most excellent!

Maybe mastering is different? Usually, if the track is louder, the more space it fills up (for some reason)

Heh, he got you too!

The Kenny Burrell and John Coltrane is great! Although mine is a CD not vinyl.

Yup one of my favorite Coltrane albums. These 45 rpms aren't cheap but they'll bring my many years of enjoyment, more than any gear that comes and goes.

Just bought a couple very cheap FLAC albums from Orlando artist Thomas Wynne (& The Believers, his band). Excellent southern rock, songwriting's not quite *there* yet but he's getting close to nailing it down. The guy has a voice on him though, one that should propel him to a decent level of fame if there's any justice in the world.

There's also a free recording of a concert at Skipper's, my local jamband/blues redneck hippie joint. It's not superb quality but very listenable and shows the much more jam oriented side of their live performances. Check out "You Can't Hurt Me" from that set and marvel at the intense 3 minute distorted harmonica solo, and just how damned tight this band is live.

Only 17 years after it came out, 15+ years since I first heard of the artist, over a decade since I was aware of the album's existence, I finally bought myself a copy of YAP's 1993 self-titled release.
